Re: 英華小學家長
Mayc,
Last year, my son's team (2 students only) found information and pictures from the Internet, visited the district and took photos, and got information from a district exhibition. A lot of information was collected and in fact it was too much. They discussed what to be included, with guidance from their mothers . They agreed on the table of content, select the pictures and allocated the tasks. (one outing and one meeting outside school were arranged by their mothers for the above. The table of content was first drafted in school in the class but finalised in the meeting outside school.)
For the descriptions, they wrote their own sentences and typed the statements in Word. In fact, the final report mainly consisted of a lot of pictures, each with one or two simple sentences wrote by themselves. The final report was mainly produced in MS word with some hand drawings and hardcopy pictures (from the exhibition).
Actually, the information got from the Internet and exhibition was too much, I did help them to filter some for them to read to save their time.
I don't know how much marks the project got finally as I never saw it after handed in. Anyway, this is not important. They did learn a lot via this project.
Both the students and their mothers did spend a LOT of time and effort on this project. However, we all enjoyed the processes. Luckily, the project time was long enough to get the work done.
These are what my son gained from the project:
- how to collect information (use the google, get pictures from the web)
- understand the district more as he did visit it
- friendship, that classmate became one of his best friends
- project planning and scheduling (with guidance from their teacher and enforcement from their mothers )
- basic techniques in using MS Word
- how to type Chinese words using of hand-writing pad and "nine square".
- Use the intranet to send mail, attachments.
My tips:
- the mothers have to provide guidance to them and help to arrange meetings
- have to limit the project scope
- choose partners who lived not too far away, easy to arrange meetings
