Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

黃子,

Don't join any IDD service from mobile company, as it is quite expensive. I always buy IDD card (here name as IP card) which cost around RMB35-40(value is RMB100) and allows me to call HK for max. 65 minutes. It is easy to find the card seller on the street near Carrer Four. Remember: "bargain" the price as low as you can, they like to mark up very high when they know we are foreigner! Lately I have bought 3 IP cards in one time which costed me RMB100 totally.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

For the cheapest way to call overseas in China may pc to phone.  You can try skype.  About IP cards, some are cheap but the quality may not good enough.  When we were there, we usually buy 17910.  That is RMB98 for 200.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Diana,

Don't buy mooncakes from Shanghai, not safe and not yummy.  You should bring from HK. People here very happy to receive HK mooncakes as gift. I'm planning to ask my husband to bring a few boxes and offer to my son's class teachers !

Moon Cake

You may have a visit at B1 of SOGO.  They have 榮華/奇華 I can't remember.  I've already checked the website of both company. Click[size=medium]榮華 & [size=medium]奇華 for internet ordering.

Another option, Ritz Carlton 2/F 夏苑. The packing was nice last year.  I believe the taste would be good because the chef is from HK jockey club

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

My son's funny story : every morning, my husband will help him to get dressed.  Most of the time, he does not care the color combination and just pick any 2 from the drawer. If the color combination is too ugly, I will complain and ask him to get another set. My son knows I'm picky and he starts to ask me before my complaint, he said, "Mama, do they match?"  He has no idea what does it mean by matching.  One day he said, "They're match, T-shirt is green and pants are gray.  Both start with 'g'."  I laughed and told him that has nothing to do with 'g'.  This morning, my husband gives him green T-shirt and green pants. I told my husband it's an ugly combination.  My son asks me, "Mama, they're matched. Green and green is the same."

P.S. I have signed a few big contracts for my company & have exceeded their 2005's budget in one month.   Looking forward to my commission.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Hi all Shanghai Mommies,

Since to know you all. I may be move to SH very soon (Oct05-Jan06) because my husband job change required.
Shanghai is raw to me and I've just visit once for sightseeing during last Easter.

I don't know how to decide:
whether I should find a job from HK first which stationed SH OR
I take a rest at SH and start to have BB.

Our BB plan is not in right schedule and not clear due to my husband's company direction.
Many things I have to consider, such as the topics you have discussed:
Medical?
Production place?
Living Atmosphere?

I need your support as a friendship supporting group.

Angela, infact, here the local immunisation schedule is more/less the same as HK one. But, there are two additional injections that we don't have in HK. First, China need the kids to have 日本腦炎 injection on their 1yr, 1.5yrs and 5 yrs old respectively. Also, there is one immunisation called 流行性脊椎膜炎 which required to be injected on 3yrs, 7yrs and 10 yrs old respectively.

Sandy,

We did not have traffic jam on the way to Pudong.

What is 流行性脊椎膜炎 ? I've never heard this and couldn't find this in the green immunisation book. Are you talking about 流行性腦炎?i.e. what we were talking about early this year, the MAV, 'A+C' or 'A+C+W+Y', etc. Only 流行性腦炎 takes injections at 3, 7 and 10 yrs old.

Critic,

Funny to hear about the 'matching' story. My son always wears the Ultraman, Pokemon or dianosar clothes. Teachers may think we only had 3 T-shirt. I let him to choose what he wants to wear in the morning.

Tsun Tsun will start his 'summer vacation' from this evening to the end of this month. Nightmare...

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

I have no idea about what you people talking about immunisation. I'll try to do something when we're in HK in Oct.

Joanne, why Tusn Tusn does not go to school? Have you heard of a school called ichooi.com? It's in Pudong and they have classes for little babies. I may go to Century Park this Saturday or Sunday, twins really want to ride the bike. Will call you if we're around.

I'm very angry with the ayi and my husband suggests to fire her. I told her don't fold my suits after ironing, then she used a hanger (the one with clips on 2 sides) to hang my jacket. She does not help my mom on cooking and my mom has to cook for her. I told you that when we first hire her, we  told her that dinner is not included.  She should be happy that we're now offering her free dinner, imagine she eats like crazy. She has started to eat/get the food from fridge without asking our permission.  e.g. we have left the rice in the rice-cooker, if she is still hungry, she will check our fridge to see if there's any rice/noodles available.  Yesterday, my mom suspected that she brought her own clothes and washed in the balcony.

Chens : Your questions are very personal and I guess you already have an answer on your mind.  It's better if you can find a job in HK as it's not easy to find job in Shanghai. You won't be interested to get a local pay. You're bored if you don't have a job & baby.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Joanne, I don't know whether the term of 流行性脊椎膜炎 is the same as 流行性腦炎, because I copied the info. from the Japanese-Shanghai medical guide book. Somehow the writing in Japanese are different from Chinese, but believe that your immunisation book should be more reliable.

Angela, hope our info. assist you in certain extent!

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Regarding moon cakes, I found some department stores selling 榮華 mooncakes which are imported from HK. But, of course the price is much much expensive than in HK, i.e. around RMB2-300.

Be careful that there are cheap 榮華 mooncakes which are made in Guangzhou.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Critic,

We are attending the weekend class from ichool. There are only 4 kids in our class. However, I am not going to let Tsun Tsun join it in Sep because it's a bit expensive (price will be grown up from 100 to 125). Secondly, my son's level is higher then the other kids because the other kids have not gone to the kindergarten yet.

I will let my son to join the after-kindergarten activity from Sept. There is a similar class as ichool, 2 classes per week. I am still considering to let him join the art class or not.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

joanne,

It rained so we went to Shanghai Science & Technology Center yesterday.  My son & twins enjoyed very much.  We spent 6-7 hours there. It's expensive but worth to go. The children playing area is big & my son enjoyed to be "BOB the Builder".  Have you been there?  I email you his BOB the builder picture if you want.  Don't take Oliver, not suitable for babies.
