大家可否給意見，小朋友在幼兒及幼稚園階段應讀每日有一小時英文，廣東話及普通話的兩文三語班好，還是每日有1.5小時英文及普通話的英普班好？在家中我們和女兒用廣東話溝通，而女兒愛說英文，因跟工人姐姐要好。
因我們沒有普通話話境給她，怕她中文表達能力會不好。謝謝意見。

ENG/PUT class is better as you can teach her Cantonese.

Just my opinion, you need to check the standard/level of your child's cantonese proficiency first. If her cantonese is very good and comparable with children of her age, you can consider PTH teaching now. If she is not yet very good at Cantonese, you must build up Cantonese first. Because child must be very fluent with one language (mother tongue) before she should be exposed to PTH on top of yet another language of English.

I agree. While Eng/PTH classes are popular nowadays, the importance of Cantonese should not be underestimated unless you want her to develop Eng or PTH as the first language.

I agree too. pTh is easily learnt and can be even learnt well at college. I don't see any urgent need to learn PTH. Our generation all learn PTH late.

I applied Eng&

TH class, but it is really competive, only one class in few campus.
In my poiny of view, if you want your kid has native speaking level in both English and PTH, it really depends on how many supports you as perants could provide at home, because I trust homeschooling is more important than school teaching. I think some of schools will also consider this point. From my personal experience, the principal did ask what are our home languages during 2nd interview.

小女有幸入到維記2013 年PN上午兩文三語班，校長說如下年K1想讀英普班（只有下午班）可寫信申請。但還在想小女現廣東話少說，愛說英文。我又聴人講母語建立不好就不應這麼小就學第三語言，可否正在讀英普及兩文三語的小朋友家長分享下？

我建議你問現在有小朋友讀K2／K3甚至剛入小一的家長才能提供他們的實戰經驗。我有朋友的小孩讀英普班，到K3講野時經常一句入面有中英混合，連grammer也不是follow中交亦不英。考小學很困難。speech delay通常係2歲以後才發現疑似個案，到K1 下學期通常老師會睇到。

每個小孩的語言天份不同，就算家長能提供同一樣家庭語境training每個小孩能給收既都唔同。如你家有2個小朋友就很容易明白這道理。

睇下Disney World Family d 廣告，你估個個個小朋友睇完，家長又跟manual去train，就一定會變成廣告入面D神童?

近來去了某校的課程講座, 校長提到英普班的普不是教普通話而是用普通話學知識, 所以他不建議在兩歲班母語也説不清時用普通話教學以免影響思維發展。雖然作為家長我也想小朋友從小學兩文三語, 但我覺得校長所言是很好提醒。

我都覺得母語重要，所以我會揀兩文三語，唔想小朋友將來用國語嘅方法講廣東話，如 '可否幫我拿...'

Hi Louiseong. I am having similar concern as yours. My kid got the same offer as your daughter got while I'm struggling between the trilingual am class from victoria and a pth/eng am class from another school. My kid also tends to speak more English than Cantonese but I want him to have Cantonese as his mother tongue. However people around us mainly speak English, all our neighbors are westerns and my husband speaks English with him. I'm the only person who speak Cantonese with him. Actually he is now attending cantonese/english playgroup in Victoria twice a week that he still has chances to communicate via Cantonese. Given the situation of him, he understands and he can speak Cantonese but when we point at a car and ask him what is that, he'd say "car" rather than "車". He would only speak Cantonese only when he doesn't know how to say it in English. For example, he doesn't know "著鞋" in English so he'd say "著鞋" instead of "put on the shoes".

I tend to another school, in which he got a pth/eng offer, but then I worry about the Cantonese issue. From what i heard, 99.9% of parents and teachers ask me not to worry about it, they all said my kid (actually all kids) will be able to pick up Cantonese since, assuming, I'd speak Cantonese with him in the rest of time. I doubted but I believe when the majority tell me the same thing, it should be somehow correct. I also believe kids are easy to be influenced by the other kids, so my plan is to let him attend the pth/eng class in the morning and will let him attend Cantonese playgroup in some of the weekdays.

Do yo speak Cantonese or English with your daughter?

Hi yzxz and other sharing mum/dad,
Thank you for your sharing. I mainly speak English to my daughter as she speak English to me all the time. However my mother-in-law would speak Cantonese to my daughter everyday.

I decided to let my daughter to study the trilingual PN class in Victoria and let her to attend Putonghua class outside if necessary. The main reason that the trilingual class would be benefit for her to apply primary 1 in the future. And I think that she will present her ideas better in her mother tongue. In addition, my son started the trilingual class since K1, he can speak good putonghua without accent with mandarin people. I think my daughter would perform even better than my son in terms of language learning.

Victoria 的英普PN班只有下午班，小孩能否適應，因人而異，有些小朋友可以睡到十點，讀下午班就沒問題，有些每天七點多就醒的，就很辛苦，除非上學前可以小睡。

到K1, 銅鑼灣和海峰園都應該有上午英普。

我想問一下英普小朋友既思考方式是否英文，如果我只想小朋友學好英文，仍以母語即廣東話思考或日常對答，是否以兩文三語為首選？
