Doris,
Glad to know that Brian likes his little sister very much, maybe Brian is a lot older so he knows how to take care of little sister. If they're closer in age, siblings will argue and fight more. One method is to praise the good one instead of scolding the naughty one. The naughty will immediatley get better.

ljsze,
I'll let Preston wear an extra vest so even if he doesn't cover with blanket, he's still warm. But usually kids get quite hot when sleep (Preston sweats a lot even with only pjamas and a vest on).
Preston likes his full-day class very much. also. I found him knowing a lot more people than I thought, from schoolbus, full-day class... He always meet someone he knows at our estate and i have no idea who they are (he even knows the parents!)

I just wonder if most kids don't cover themselves with blanket during the night, especially when it's getting cooler these days.

Doris

Does Brian tell you once that he wants tojoin full-day class ?

ljsze,

I guess kids don't realize the need to cover themselves with blankets.  However, Brian used to ask me to cover his whole body (shoulders to toes) with a blanket.  He said he would feel more comfortable in this way.  Yet, the blanket will no longer cover his body in the morning.

Brian once told me that he wanted to join full day class.  However, he didn't mention it again since then.  How about Davin?

When Preston & Hei Hei joined full-day class, he asked a few times.  Shing Shing just joined & Davin asked again.  He even cried one day & refused to leave the school.

ljsze,
Why not let Davin take full-day? He misses his friends plus they learn some self-care skills and art work, games in the afternoon.

Doris,
You can let Brian take full-day class so your maid and your mom can have more time taking care of the little baby.

ljsze, Lydia,

Brian has to take some interest classes in weekdays.  He may need to sacrifice the chance to take those classes if he takes full day.  What's more, it's difficult to arrange evening interest classes for him in my case.  So am session is more suitable for him at the moment.

I may put Davin in full-day class but not now.  Right now, he is also taking some interest classes in weekdays.  If we shift those to weekends, that will be too much for Davin.

Lydia

What kind of art lesson is Preston having in the afternoon ?  Chinese painting / calligraphy / something else ?  When do kids leave for full-day class ?

I want to know more about this school becasue I want to send my son (16 months) to N1 next year.

1.  I heard that there is 1 Japanese teacher in the school.  Is she still there and offer Japanese class?
2.  Is the school fee includes field trips and special activites (e.g. New year parties).
3.  Do the students speak English in the school?
4.  Ratio of teacher vs students.
5.  If my son get in N1 next year, will we have the first priority to get a seat for K1 and I can choose Mandarin + English as I want?

ljsze,

Maybe K3 is another good chance for Davin and Brian to switch to full time.  They will study full time in Primary school so they can prepare themselves for it earlier.

Dear all,

I found that Brian is still emotional.  He still cries easily and it's not easy to settle him down.  Frankly speaking, it does make me upset sometimes.

elizatyy,
1.  The Japanese teacher will only offer Japanese class for the Japanese students, not for the whole school.
2.  The school fee includes almost everything.  However, you need to pay fee for miscellaneous items (~$1000 for a year or half year?) and the school picnic.
3.  Students used to speak Cantonese in school but they will speak English to the native English-speaking teachers.
4.  Ratio 2 : 20-28.  Some teacher helpers will also go to different classes from time to time.
5.  I think the school will probably reserve a K1 place for your kid if he will study N1 next year in LH.  For the Mandarin-English class, I guess priority will be given to the current N1 students in school.

There is a Japanese teacher who mostly assist the Japanese students. But my son learns some Japanese recently in full-day class.
The school fee includes all the party fees and outings. You only pay the school bus fee for school picnic.
If your son gets into N1, there is a priorty to get into K1 class. Most students speaks cantonese, but they will speak English with kids that don't speak cantonese and to the English teachers.
Overall, I have no regrets to let my son study at LH and my son likes going to school very much.

Doris, ljsze,
I needed to make some effort to rearrange his ECA when he started full-day this year and switch some courses to weekends. But nothing is perfect, something need to give up. But so far he's taking 2 courses over weekdays night and 2 over Sat. So far so good. Preston will be very excited if Davin and Brian take full-day class.

Hi Lydia,
Can u tell me what will they do in the afternoon?

I heard they will offer painting and different activities for kids they don't sleep in the afternoon.

What's the curriculum difference for half day and whole day school?

Please tell more.

Many thanks,
jocool

I share your view.  I also think K3 is a good timing.

Lydia

I just wonder which schools offer courses at night-time.  Won't Preston be very tired starting from evening ?

Lydia, Doris

If Davin takes full-day class or he skips afternoon nap, then I really have to get off from work earlier.  Right now, I find that I've got no time to play with or educate him is he skips the nap.

ljsze,

I've got the same problem.  Brian has skipped his afternoon nap since August and he used to go to bed before 9.30pm.  I've got not much time to talk and play with him after work.

ljsze,Doris,
I understand your concern. Preston sleeps very early (goes to be at 9:00) but since I'm usually home by 6pm, I have enough time to play with him. But not my husband coz he's usually comes back at ~8pm. But I think quality is the better than quantity. Preston will finish homework after school so I just check his homework and can just play with him. Also, we spend the whole day with him on Sunday, so I don't really find that's a big issue even after going full-day.
Preston's piano class is at 8:00 and only half and hour and Mandarin teacher comes to our home once a week at 6:30, so far so good. Although he gets a bit tired than the other days, so only 2 days a week he can class, others are on Sat.

Doris,
Don't worry and get upset about the emotion, coz Brian will affect by your emotion. Preston also got emotional b4, but he got a lot better when he gets older. Or I also let Preston takes EQ course so as to improve his EQ (actually I sometimes take some courses as well to improve my EQ so I can deal with him easier)

If the kids don't nap, they will do other activities like playing games, chess, Japanese, painting, reading story books... You can ask the school for more details.

Davin has been sleeping more these days.  If he skips the nap, he will sleep at 9pm at night & yet we have to wake up him in the morning (at about 8:10am).

Lydia

See.  It's good to have a teacher coming to your home for lesson.  No need to waste time travelling.  I have not yet enrolled Davin for any Mandarin lesson.  Maybe next year.

So good that the Mandarin teacher will come to your home for lessons.  Is the tuition fee expensive?

Doris,ljsze,
It's referred from some BK mom and she's from Bejing. She's very nice and Preston really likes her (even from the 1st lesson). We share with another kid (next block friend) and is $250/hr for 2 kids. If one kid, it's $170/hr, slightly higher that outside (usually $150/hr).

I have just sent the application form to the school.  I hopes my son will study in this school in 2008.

You said that the N1 pupils has a priority to get into K1.  Is it up to the parents to choose Local stream or Intl stream?  Or the school will request my son to take another interview.  My preference is sending him to Intl stream as the school fee is pretty expensive.

May I know the ratio of teacher to students for N1 and K1?

May I know more about the interview for N1?

There are 2 teachers (1 NET and 1 local) in a class.  Do you know the nationality of the NET?
