It's not magic, but I have compare 2 teachers, HK$300/hr ( go to my home to teach) and HK$600/hr ( the teacher's home), I can see a big differece, the child can improve very fast with a good teacher.

Sure lah! cos of "fun chin fun for" ma! A good teacher is really really important! My girl can immediate tell the difference bet'n the old teacher with this new one, that is, the old one never praise her (cos of group ma, and she is strict and cool), and she didn't like to practise at home. Whereas this new one catches every chance to praise her, these two days she likes to practise comparatively. She said she is looking forward to the next lesson

Dear all,

Here what I am saying is not mean that a good teacher is not important. I don't know what's the value of behind $600/hr. I just want to share my case to all of you. My daughter started learning violin in Sept 2004 when she is six years old. She joined the Grade 3 violin competition of HK school music festival this year and she got the third prize. She will take the Grade 4 exam by this October. The cost we pay for her violin lessons are:

$180/45min (one lesson every two week)
$130/4 lesson/month (音統)

Besides, she will become the first violin of school orchestra after the summer.

In my opinion, a good teacher is much worth for senior learner. That's only my opinion, it may be wrong.

There's a Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in City Hall on Friday, September 1 at 8 pm.  Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Conductor Yip Wing-sie, Violin Robert Chen.

Programme:
Weber Die Freischutz Overture
Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E minor, Op 64
Sibelius Symphony No 2 in D, Op 43

Good for an 8-year boy (grade 2) to see?

請問初學Violin有無好似鋼琴咁, 有樂理書練習做架!
因呀囡學琴時有"幼兒樂理"練習, 但呀仔學Violin時無, 所以想比呀仔做d樂理練習有關Violin!

My girl has taken 2 lessons already, the old teacher is very patient and demonstrates when necessary,  only part by part by the time being, and always to correct her finger positions....

And he shows his teacher's information to me, telling me that his teacher is a very famous passed russian violinst.

I'd like to join the 音統 class also but I have been rejected for 2 years! Last year my girl is under-aged, and this year my enrolment form was late submitted for a few days and missed the enrolment deadline, I urged the officer for dicretionery but she rejected me at once, said "must be fair to other applicants!" So bad we have to wait for another year again.

Do you know how difficult is it to enter the class? (for old learner, not green learner) would they consider the public exam marks and interview performance as well?

Hellomummy,

Don't be unhappy. As your kid under age last year, that means you r kid still very young. So, don't give up, try again next year.
My daughter join this course last year and she was an old learner ( learning for one year) at that moment. According to my daughter's classmate, I think it is not difficult to enter the class. For the junior class, I don't think they consider the public exam. They only concern the interview performance only I think.

還有視譜(sight reading). 1至8級都是一樣.
可以參考ABRSM的網址.
