I am afraid the standard of the Chinese and English subjects may be a bit too high!
My son (P1 student) has already learned lots of new English words, e.g. crescendo, H2O, orbit, gravity, antenna, all the names of the 9 planets..................etc.
And he could recite 6 Chinese Poems in Putonghua.
(Even though I am not sure whether he could pronounce the words properly or not because my husband and I don't speak Putonghua!)
Yes, you are right. Pui Kiu kids are fluent in PTH. For English, I am quite impressed by the syllabus and the teaching materials prepared by school itself.
For my daughter's case, she is now in G1, she used to be have higher standard in English than in Chinese. But now her PTH has improved significantly. But I see no drop in her English standard.
They need to do 1 simple composition & a reading log of English book every day. Through such kind of exercises that require their creativity & usage of words, she learnt to really use the words she learnt, not just to recite the words through those penmanship exercise.
She speaks more in PTH & English than in Cantonese at home now.
