Dear Parents,
Have a topic to discuss here. I agree with kunggi201 that IB is the future trend for HK education. But one of the famous post-secondary school in HK called Li Po Chun (李寶椿聯合世界書院) only provide IB course for HKCEE top students. The famous universities in UK and US will come to HK every year to select graduate students from this school. Question is should we put our children in a famous traditional school in HK first to become top students (hopefully) or in a new-style school like CKY who claims it will go for IB after grade 10? My worry is do the children in new-style school have the abilities academically to cope with the difficult subjects in IB. For 尖子, they are proved. But for the new-style one, not yet in HK. I am struggling this. Could anyone comment and discuss? Thx.

李寶椿take top students from traditional and international schools.  Top students can have the ability to get high IB score in whatever college they study, 李寶椿,ESF, CKY, CIS....etc.

The point is : do you believe CKY will train your child to become a top student  in future. This is a big issue  and they are many threads in BK to discuss the pros and cons of traditional and the new style school. If you are confident in the school, you don't need to get a good result in HKCEE (in fact there will be no HKCEE starting from 2008) to prove your child  has the abilities academically in order to study IB.
<<My worry is do the children in new-style school have the abilities academically to cope with the difficult subjects in IB. For 尖子, they are proved. >>If you have such a worry, then you  better put your child in traditional school. Otherwise  you will be very uncomfortable with the teaching method of the school  and suspect if your child has the  academic stardard as other kids in  traditional school in the next 10 odd years.

Dear SeeBaMad,

我同意Paris的講法, 其實作為父母都希望小朋友未來的路是好平坦, 而非崎嶇不平. 作為選擇CKY的家長, 我們都是希望小朋友在愉快而沒有壓力之下學習, 未來的香港教育, 我真的看不到會變成怎麼樣? 高官們只會高高在上的說那些白話, 試問他們那一個孩子不是急急已送往外國讀書?

在傳統學校就讀, 對!!! "只要你是尖子", 你便有機會成為搶手學生, 但緊記, 你要成為"尖子", 當中的十多年學校生活中, 你要打過多少的仗才能成為"尖子", 當中所承受的壓力是否真的值得?

在我來看, 小朋友從小能夠培養出喜歡閱讀及學習, 做任何事都是主動的, 懂得如何處理難題, 其實有何問題?

I called the school on Thursday and they said the result will only be available in January. I don't understand why they take so long.

對cky的印象開始有d覺得麻麻，2nd int 的時間一推再推，如果現在話公布結果的時間又要再推明年，間學校作風似乎真係太鬆，連咁公開的事務，校長及職員都好似無discipline，你話d學生點算! 剩係靠讀得開心唔夠wor。

學校的"承諾"是頗具體的，有留意她的網頁便可知一二。

換轉是其他機構，不論是私人或政府，面對如此對外的時間表，通宵都要做埋去，無可能話做唔完就推，樹立如斯榜樣，如何教小朋友守誠諾，將來做事，meet deadline的心態及能力是很重要的，cky可能有點太鬆散了，真的須要認真改善。

記得，兩年前也是太約一月中才收到通知
但是當時，2nd int. 是一個家庭單獨見校長15分鐘
(我們overtime了，見了30分鐘)
今年從這處看見，是三個家庭一同見校長15分鐘
可見校方在今年因為申請人多了
以致在面試的工作量大了很多

不過，我看見網頁上是寫：
“Admission result will be sent by the end of December”
似乎是沒有delay 喎？
還是校方更改了schedule?

我覺得，私校都是「先收後拒」
即是，先出信給獲得學位的學生（又或者會出信俾一d一定唔收的學生）
到名額滿了（家長交了留位費），最後才會出decline letters給落選的
所以，很有可能，未被獲取的學生而又有potential的"marginal cases" （我相信為數不少）, 校方會放你在後備名單，到很後很後，學額全數落實後才會出信，不足為奇
（以上為個人意見，不代表校方）

尤其是CKY, 因為經常估計錯誤那些交了費卻沒有上學的人數
以致在處理收生事宜，更加小心
我那一年，校方預計有些人交了學費而最終放棄學位
最後卻全數上課，以致P1五班本來是每班20多人
變成28-30人一班，雖然校方多聘老師（有兩班是有三個班主任）
但總有家長投訴一班實在太多人了
從我們現在家長的角度來說
我們寧願校方慢慢選一些合適的學生
將來對校譽，對大家都好

是不是沒有discipline，就見人見智了
我和政府經常打交道
很多時有些政策一拖再拖
如landfill charging都講左好多年啦
不是不重要，是相對其他，有更重要的事情要辦
私人機構也是如此，很多時，我們也會因為一些更重要的原因（例如是遷就一些老闆、客人的行程）
把會議押後、改期，也是很平常的事

個人認為，CKY的家長一向都是要求很高
因為是交幾千圓學費的，總要物有所值吧！
以致校方經常組織很多活動啦，field trips 啦，outings啦
而現在正是Holiday Seasons
又有party 啦，表演啦
自私一點來說，如果校方有時間
我當然想校方將priority 放在serve現在的老闆們（家長）
聖誕節都冇攪作，你估校方會收到家長幾多投訴呢

同樣來說，如果你是一間私校的校長
你的收入來源主要是學費
你面前有「校務」同埋「收生」兩件事
（而且，「收生」方面並不缺乏）
如果人手有限，你會先處理甚麼？

況且，現在是假期日子
我公司大部份人都請了假
沒有假期的，包括一些高層都holiday mood囉
我今日(12月28日）打了N個電話給某政府部門
真係個個對口當事人都不在位
做甚麼也做不成
而我看見有家長在12月22日打電話給校方
果日是第一日假期，而校方又剛好完了一個term的工作
前一日又係party
正如voasia說：學校的老師們都很辛苦很忙碌，應該不會故意吊大家胃口的.

有看過我留言的網友
應知我在此經常投訴校方的行政
不過，今次我覺得，校方是情有可原
所以嘛，希望大家可以忍耐包容

We've also received the letter - admitted ! We're so glad! CKY is my daughter's favourite school and is also our top choice. My daughter will definitely study in this school next September.

I'm so happy that I received the letter by today 29/12. My daughter is accepted by CKY. I'm so excited .....what will happen on my daughter 1st day at school and how will she adapt to new environment and start her new school life in coming September..... she 's really a BIG girl.......

Hi,

Congratulations to those parents received admitted letter.
My son was put in waiting list. I felt very disappointed and frustrated. Actually, in 2nd interview,I thought my son performed very well because he could tell a story completely and very vivally and seems principal is very happy with that. Also I have emphasized that we are very keen on reading and agreed with school's vision. How come my son was put in waiting list. Is it because he's not the top one in the kindergraten or he didn't acquire any certificate in famous education instituste. Feeling disappointed to current education policy. What's the exact standard on evaulate the student?? Really hard to know and satisfy their requirement.
