Dear joyjoyma,
My son doesn't know how to spell those words, since his kinder does not require K1 students to spell vocabulary. As a matter of fact, the school has not finished teaching those 26 english letters yet, so it's impossible to ask their students to spell vocab.
Based on what I've heard from other parents from upper grades, my son's kinder does not teach phonics in school, so all spellings have to be learnt by memorizing. This is the major shortcoming I've found so far in this school. However, almost all students have learnt/or will learn the phonics somewhere outside, so there is no problem. Furthermore, the english pronunciation taught by this kinder is very accurate, 非常字正腔圓, 佢地係一個一個字咁幫D學生執正D發音, 這一向面我是非常滿意的.
Some more examples for those phase:
M for moon; M for a bottle of milk.
P for policeman, P for a piece of paper.
