有個曾在美國領事館工作過的前同事, 取笑港大大一生的英文課外閱讀書籍是 "哈利波特"

非常正常，去年Harry Potter第五集出版，訪問一中七女生，那女生說要先看中文，然後才看英文。

別忘記，肯看書的孩子己是較好的一群。

I think good English is still very important in HK for all students when they go out to work after graduation. The English ability of many U graduates nowadays is really below standard. So if our society is using mother tongue in all daily business, just like in Japan, it is very logical to use all Chinese throughout our education. But HK is very international, English is almost the first language used in the business world, so our kids really need to be good in both English and Chinese.

以前之評法，包括師資和學生。現在之健議，師資和學生定更具體。教學方法, 文化，難下定義。增值, 畢業生水準，這是上一次被批評得最多之地方，這次也不見怎樣提及，不好。

That's what I meant, either do it like China, Japan or Germany, use the same language all the way. It just doesn't make sense to change from Chinese to English when get in University la. My point really was, since we would not be able to do it like China or Japan, we shouldn't limit English education.

其實真係都有諗過：大仔升中時好唔好幫佢轉去local英中名校呢？一來慳好多，二來接觸多Ｄ中文，唔駛我而家拉牛上樹得咁辛苦。

而家睇睇下真係博唔過，大仔睇唻無彎轉，唯有直上喇，但細仔唔想再咁樣，希望搵間雙語教學有水準的，唯有鋪下路，睇下CIS有無機會，宏立聽講都唔錯，不過新校真係好難完全放心。唉！總之最唔可以放低既就係荷包！

I sense that although Gov. is imposing the mother-tongue teaching, but there are a vast number of schools, parents, teachers or even students not buy in the approach.

My instant thinking is that there must be something wrong in imposing mother-tongue teaching and most people thinks that English teaching is still most sought after method of teaching! It speaks by iteself just by looking at how much effort 中中 schools try to "convert" to 英中.

As a result of implementing 中中 , the acceptance level of English language for HK Us will be inevitably lowered and the transition from M-T to English teaching in Us will be tougher since the students are more grown up and likely to accumulate a lot of bad habits in English.

As pointed out earlier by Matt'smom and Wymom, HK is an international city and English like it or not, is the official language used. Remember we have to abide to the English version of a Contract should there is ambiguities and contradictions in the English and Chinese version of a Contract Agreement.

Therefore, I strongly believe that kids have to master the English language well to the face the real world in order to put them in a better position in this competitive world.

P.S. Some IS kids are reading Harry Porter in Grade 2 already. For me, I haven't even started...
