I called the school and found out the hours are similar to the traditional schools e.g. 8 hours per day.  There are 6 sessions in the morning and 3 sessions in the afternoon, one session more than the traditional schools.  I learnt that the homework is light e.g. P1 is read and draw/write a book report daily and write 4-5 sentences about their day.  That sounds good compared to the repetitive writing!  However, does the school increase students' workload dramatically as they move up to P2, P3 and so on?  From your comments the school must have a way to help students learn without too much work, right?  Do they have TSA in P3 and P6?  Also, there are tests besides the annual exam, how often are they?  Please provide me with a fuller picture as I want to find a school that doesn't squeeze the last bit out of a child.

With interest classes, students finish their day around 5pm.  Do they have time to do homework at school?  I like their swimming pool, do they provide lessons through out the year?  Sorry there are so many questions.  Thanks very very much.

Hi,

Do they have TSA in P3 and P6?  Yes, will attend.

There are tests besides the annual exam, how often are they? Yes, but not frequent. So they have more sessions than other school.

With interest classes, students finish their day around 5pm.  Do they have time to do homework at school?   Yes, will have time to let them to do their homework during school hour but whether they can finish are depends on their writing speed and understanding.

I like their swimming pool, do they provide lessons through out the year? No, it will close in November because there is no cover and heat facility, but will plan to raise fund to build the cover and heat facility.

非常多謝你在這裡盡心盡力地為各 Pui Kiu Fans 服務! 雖然興建攀石牆是需要一些場地空間, 但這項運動對於鍛鍊意志, 耐力和思考都很有幫助, 希望代為轉達校方, 好好考慮有關的規劃! Thx again!

there are around 150 teachers in Puikiu but only 7 native English speaking teachers(I counted in the school website-our team), the ratio seems much lower than some other English primary school e.g. SMC, WKF...I am worried those Chinese English teacher can not provide good English pronounciation to our kids. How do you tink about this?

In addition, I understand the main school publishing and circulars are all in English. I want to know what is the official language use in school? for example, the morning meeting(whole school), the broadcasting, teacher's conversation to the students after class, ECA, interest class...I think this is related to the English environment which school provides. tks in advance.

As I know, some English teachers could not speak any Chinese even they look like Chinese.
For example, teacher Anna speaks only English and some Mandarin and teacher Christina speaks only English.
Principal said once, all Pui Kiu's English Teachers (primary section, not sure secondary school because I was at the seminar for primary school) are native English speaker or have studied aboard in the countries like Canada or Australia.

correct me if I am wrong, pls.

Larchai, if you define native speaker only with their face like foreigner, your method is not correct.

ECA is not compulsory and the fees are depends on individual course. Usually $60 -$100 per hour.

Dear Puikiufriend, I am going to apply for 2011 P1 for my kid.  How should I prepare?  Shall I prepare profile?  Shall I teach my kid some Putonghua?  My kid is not familiar with Putonghua at all ...  chance slimmer ??

Hi,

As far as I know from the past few years cases that there is no promise for the chance of sibling. But if the performance of the first interview is marginal, the school will give a chance for second interview.

However, If the performance of the first interview is below average, there may not have chance for second interview.
