I was faced with similar situation last year and I chose Think based on a rather simple reason: my son was accepted to AM class by Think and PM class by Cannan.

At that point, I didn't know whether it was the right decision or not since it seemed more people would choose Cannan over Think.

While the tuition in Cannan is lower than that of Think, the environment should be comparable between both schools.

Last week, a parent asked me how Think's nursery is. I said it's depends on the expectation of the parents and future plan of K1/P1.

Eg.If you want to go to a kindergarten which focuses a bit more on homework in order to prepare for P1, Cannan might be a better choice. For parents of Think, most of them either choose IS or DSS for P1.

If you want your child to have a happy time for N1 or you haven't decided the type of K1 you will apply, then I don't think it makes too much difference in either one.

Anyhow, I told that parent there are outdoor learning activities (picnic on Phase 3 平台花園,school bus ride, visit to supermarket, pick up yellow leaves in order to observe change in season etc....) which I appreciate.

As for K1, my son was accepted by several kindergartens other than Think. Although I haven't made the final decision, it's likely that I let him stay for K1 first and decide later.

I hope the above will give you some thoughts.

I incline to focus on DSS/private primary schools at the moment, but I don't rule out the possibility of going to IS, though it's slim. But I guess I will have a better idea in a year or two as to the type of school that fits my son.

I don't expect there would be good results from the central allocation (my son only has 15 points as the primary school which I went to is a girl' school).

DSS = Direct Subsidy Scheme 直接資助
IS = International School

Huanghou,

same target as u (DSS,private), so my son will go to Think (LT)  in coming Aug, hope he will enjoy the time there as your kid.  I like those Kinder provide diff activities than hv a lot of homework / training, as my son is rather active kid..

Of course, will try to search other K1 later too..what's your target for K1 ? I want to try HK preschool and SC. For KM, he is in waiting list only this year for the N1 interview, so not sure will hv higher chance when going for the interview for K1 this year..

BH_2,

My son will go to K1 this Sep. SC is one the kindergartens which accepted him.

Even though your son is on KM's waiting list for N1, it doesn't mean it will be the same when it comes to K1 interviiew. Don't have worry too much! You still have about 4months to narrow down your choice of kindergartens. Those you mentioned are the common picks.

Thx for sharing !

So u hv already decided to move to SC for K1 or still waiting for others ?

For KM's N1 interview my son fail because that section is just match his sleep time, otherwise the interview mode should be rather easy for most kids.  For K1 's I believe will be a bit diff, and more reflecting  kids' ability.  I just hope my son will be himself during diff interview and find a match kinder la..

I am not waiting for the news from other kindergartens as my son was either accepted or rejected by the kindergartens applied, but not on waiting list. There are few matters I have to sort out before I have the final decision.

I recall the interview time of a kindergarten in Kowloon Tong last year was close to my son's nap time. It everything went smoothly, it should be ok. However, we waited for more than a hour and he became sleepy, grouchy and eventually started to cry. He didn't answer 95% of the questions the teachers asked. Of course he failed.

Good luck with the upcoming K1 interviews !

I feel the same as the waiting time for these popular Kinder is really too long (for KM's I arrived 15 min earlier, but they need to wait again.. and my son therefore play over  1 hr in open area under the hot sun before the interview, he is tire and sleepy then..), for other 3 nearby kinders  we went for N interview, average waiting time less then 15 min including the warm up play time, that is more proper for small kids I think.. ...so in coming K1 interview I will pay attention for the time control too.. : D

Hope u will hv a good desicion for your son's kinder very soon.  : D

It's quite interesting though to see how a school organize its application and interivew logistics. It gives you an idea of the efficiency and effectiveness of a school's administration.

I didn't have to wait long for most of the K1 interviews, except for the one I mentioned previously. It's difficult to have perfect interview time schedule; sometimes interviews can be just 2-3 hours apart. Some kindergartens do not allow any change/swap of interview time, so we need to keep our fingers crossed so that they won't clash or are too close to another.

I have quite different experience with Think.  My son attended a playgroup on Sat.  during the school suspension period in April due to the peak flu season, we asked if there was any suspension for playgroup.  Think immediately said there was no and  we asked why as this was an order given by the Education Bureau, all primary schools and kindergarten must follow, Think said the playgroup  belongs to extra-curricular activities only and so would continue and as there were parents accompany, there should be no problem.   But we still insisted that they needed to follow the order or we would call EdB for further details and inquiry and asked them to reply us later.  Once we said we would call EdB, it seemed that they were afraid they would be caught violating the order and gave way, said there would be suspension for my son's playgroup lessons, and arrange make up class for my son's absence.
what i got from this experience was.......they are very very very money-minded and don't think children's health as their priority.
so, for an organization which only cares about their profit, i would not put my son there for kindergarten.
i highly NOT recommend parents to enroll this kindergarten.

just to share,

my friend's kids and my son go to diff playgroup too (we are not going to Think's playgroup, my friend go to playgroup provided by famous kinder in Kowloon tong..) , all of them just Cancel Without any refund or re-class during the flu period, if parents did go to there to argu, some willl give some specially arrangement to re-class 1-2 session..

Or some playgroup continue at that period , as they believe with parents there the kids are more safe than go to normal kinder..so it will be parents choose if go or not..

seems normal playgroup all following the same arrangement as Think's playgroup lo..
