Hi CandytheMom, TumTum and Che, please could you share with me why you like this school?  Most grateful for your sharing... coz I've been hearing a lot of -ve things about the school..

I like it because of its balanced curriculum (no crazy amount of homework and tests), language focus on both english and putonghua (I think English will always be very important so I want my kid to be good at it), pleasant school natural environment.

Just curious what are the negative things that you have heard about the school?

-ve things i heard mainly:
- kids are very free and "wild"
- even though classes are easier than traditional schools the tests are not, and therefore actually pressure is higher to perform well
- pressure to do lots of ECA


and of course for me the long travelling time (45 mins each way) is also a concern...

What we like about the school:
- balanced curriculum (high standard but not pushy to students. You'll know when you see the text books and worksheets)

- good school management (the three major personnel: Principal, Mr. Wong & Mr. Kam are closely working together) and teachers have very good standard (apart from NET, PTH teachers all have Edu dept cert. i.e. they acquire the high standard to teach CHinese in PTH)

- excellent environment to bring children closer to the nature (this is sth you can't buy even with lots of $$$, & you can't underestimate the positive impact on the children with this in the long run)

- lively, allow children to be themselves at their age. e.g. children could run around in the playground during lunch time (honestly only two schools I know allow this).
- PTH teaches Chinese and very high English teaching standard still.

What may be a concern:
- distance to home
- school fee
- they say since secondary school (S4) will change to IB & will modify the primary school's curriculum to fit this, but I am not sure how many years it is going to take before they could implement in the primary school.

In short, I think SSCPS is a very good school in terms of many aspects if you buy the above I mentioned.

- 'Free and wide'? I think the school gives freedom to the children on physical aspects. They also have high moral standard & cultivate in teaching.

- 'pressure...'? In SSCPS, their exam is only three days: one subject one day, 45 min for each paper; unlike traditional schools which spilt into Chi. composition, Chi reading comprehension, Chi dictation, revision of Chi book chapter 1-5 etc. etc....

Anyway, if you investigate more, you'll have a more thorough idea of what the school is like.

BTW, we are only candidate, not currently studying there.

Is there any one know the percentage of studying abroad after secondary education?

Also, is it 100% for P6 students to F1, thx.

I also believe that it is actually a very good school with a long history, but more of a "niche" school and not often mentioned and not as popular mainly due to its location.  The HK$65k school fee is another factor.

I know of a couple of kids who are studying there and both of them are very street smart.

Hi Arkcocoon,

If we are lucky to get a place, it would be 7:20am get on school bus, arrive at school at 7:50pm. I think it is not too bad. After school may be a bit worse because of the traffic and may take 45min to an hour.

I think it is difficult to find a good school which fits the parents' educational philosophies and the child, and so long it is within an hour's commute, I accept it.
(honestly, even commuting between a few MTR stops, it takes 30min+ on the road because the school bus stops at a lot of stops.).

If everything being equal, I would choose one which is closer to home (at least on the same island/peninsula and not to commute through tunnel)

同意你其中一點"class is easy but tests are not."
學校的確不太多習作，但正因如此，父母必須在坊間挑選補充練習給孩子，否則孩子在考試時便有些不知所惜。
感覺喺學校唔谷，家長要自己谷。

但除了此一點外，學校設施環境都很好，老師，語言各方面亦非常不錯。

留意今年開始改了三次考試，另間中都有quiz and dictation.

If you live in TaiKooShing or South Horizons, school bus directs to school. Pick up time is 7:35am.

如果有 D 無 sibling 或同學校無關係嘅小朋友已經收到 offer，會唔會唔係好公平呢？因為重未 interview 完曬。

I think that suggested SSCPS has already ranked the candidates by their performance at 1st interview? So if those families perform well in second interviews already, it is natural for the school to give offers to those candidates.
