論知名度, LS比YW優勝.

論學習氣氛,學生校內外表現, 教學熱誠,
現時各有千秋.

LS是派位, YW是直資, 各有優勢.

無可否認, 學校是會把學業成績”超精英”的學生集中一堆培訓, 以爭取更多A, 而那些不是”超精英”的學生(佔大多數), 他們會是集中培訓以外的學生, 但都是成績不錯的, 總括而言, 學校的學習氣氛和學生的學習熱誠都很重要.

以上只是個人意見!!

Both La Salle and Ying Wa show their exam results in their Annual Reports, which can be found in their web sites. As for HKCEE, La Salle is better than Ying Wa at the top end but worse than Ying Wa at the bottom end.

In 2010, the percentage of students getting 14 points or above is comparable in the two schools, LS is  74.7% whereas YW is 72%. 2 students in LS got 10As and 32 qualified for the Early Admission Scheme. The top student in YW got 8As. Not exactly certain about the number of students qualified for the Early Admission Scheme but it was over 10.

If you look at the other end, the passing rate is only 88.2% in LS; 95.9% at YW.

Another indicator you may want to look at is the drop-out rate. Last year it was 4.3% at YW but before that the average has been 3%. The reason cited is that the majority of those students left to pursue further study overseas. However, you can't rule out that some students might leave prematurely due to academic reasons.

LS didn't give that figure in this year annual report, but on the average it was over 5% in past years.

The DSS YW Primary School is a hand pick group with supportive families.

我估佢意思係：原小一學生係P2-P5已淘汰左部份，同時加入外來插班生，所以，原小一生可以升中一既其實只有40%.....

我都相信呢個情況有發生，但比率幾多就唔知喇。LS的確收勁人插班，呢件事無可厚非，比你都想收叻學生啦。

My friend's elder boy (P3) ranked last in the class in LS & he wanted to leave LS last yr, but the plan was withheld because his younger boy has to apply P1 (2011).

Now the younger boy seat is secured. So the elder boy will leave next yr.

40% of original P1, yes

Fact is fact, and it is not rare. Kid's morale was deteriorating & parents have to do something after private tutorial was already exhausted!!

My understanding is that LS college currently admits 85% of their primary school students. Maybe 70% is a projection/guess for the future.

Not sure about the drop-out rate in LS primary School, but if you use the LS College rate of about 5% a year, over 6 years 30% of the students in the original P1 class could be replaced, provided that all students entering in the middle of the course would not drop out.

There is another indicator that tells you the quality of students entering Form 1: HKAT scores. If you look at the scores, LS admits better students than YW for Form1 class.

The 2005-06 HKAT scores from LS and YW older annual report are as follows. These students attempted the 2010 HKCEE Exams.

Taking into account that average LS Primary School students getting promoted to LS College might have lowered the scores, LS has really admitted some of the best students from other primary schools. This may explain the excellent HKCEE results of LS top students.

With an average drop-out rate of 5% a year, up to 25% of the students for a particular F1 class at LS would be replaced before sitting for the HKCEE exams. The 12% failure rate is a little bit disturbing. Maybe some students spent too much time on extracurricular activities.

Thanks for your analysis and supportive figures.

LS's way of survival is cruel...becoz it is LS, there are top students coming to it and beg a seat, as replacement to those 60% less capable students.  

YW is more healthy and student manages all subjects pass go through train.

愈睇愈唔明，每班P1到尾有成60%自己走人，咪好犀利，咁每年咪有好多人插班?
