各位媽咪,

請問DGS會收幾多個外來的學生呢? 謝謝！

There will be 100 F.1 spaces for outsiders for 06/07 and 100 spaces for DGJS, making a total of 200.

According to the information here, those who are accepted but do not have very top academic results plus no special ex-circular activities, then I think there must be something special about them.
Perhaps:
1. Some of them are very presentable, having very  
    good manners and politeness. I think that point
    affected the first impression to the Headmistress
    very much.
2. Some may possess championships in
    competitions, like tennis, swimming or some
    other special activities!?
    I remember the Headmistress urged those who
    came to her talk to submit portfolios and let her
    find out what DGS needs.

Also, the applicants were requested to do some mental Maths. right in front of the Headmistress during the interview.  Might the kids' performance be
affected under this situation?

原來唔係個個小朋友都有得waiting, 我有個朋友收到的信係直頭唔收, 而我個女d朋友大部分都係waiting.

請問妳地d信係唔係都係waiting, 而且要簽回條呀?

The whole interview was conducted in English, doing English Maths as well.  Lastly, the Putonghua ability was tested.

I know one girl was rejected as well.  For those being put on the waiting list, she has to sign and return the form to indicate your choice of waiting or not.

I wonder if those coming from English primary schools are having preference?!  Anybody knows that?

以我愚見DGS好似簡嗰啲有多少知名道啲學校好似MCS, SMCS, Heep Yunn, SFA, 油天.....其它啲學校佢可能唔清楚啲學生程度去到幾好所以就唔簡最多俾你on waiting...無論那學生有幾叻,考第一嘟唔要.

如有講錯請指教!

Agree with your views.  I know one girl from Mary Mount successfully entered DGS's F.1 last year. There would not be any doubt to her English ability as she has been taking subjects in English in primary already.  However, the Chinese Language was relatively weaker especially in Chinese composition.

其實如果係咁的話, 校長做乜要用咁多時間一個一個interview, 不如淨係in d 英小d小朋友就算.

今年識一個小朋友游水好叻, 經常攞獎! 不過又唔係最大d賽事.  全級考頭20名, 其實都好好, 不過唔係英小, 唔係名校, 所以都係無.

不過我好相信都要講運氣, 有d小朋友好lucky !
有d好勤力但係無運氣.  希望個個小朋友都可以入到理想的小學啦!

校長一個一個interview是想找really special ones from normal schools佢唔想有留綱之魚.我個friend嗰囡讀緊英小英文全級數一數二oral同外國小朋友無分別成績band one頭有課活動曾經攞獎可惜只是on waiting.

其實所有中學對某些小學都有偏好的, 就是政府中學, 也有第一round, 自行收生.  
可能因以往收的成績唔錯, 佢地希望每年keep 著, 或多收幾個; 相反地, 若某小學名列前矛, 入到去完全唔得, 下年可能會cut少一兩個. 而呢d小學, 都係為人熟識, that's why 選校要從小學/幼稚園開始.

My friend told me interviewing the Headmistress (of any schools he meant) is just like interviewing the Boss of your prospective employer.  There is no rule for picking any of the candidates.  Just because he/she likes you, he/she thinks you align with their culture......

A piece of good news to share here, my daughter is successful at SPCC and she has scholarship as well.

All of you, no matter which school your girls are going in September 2006, just keep reminding them that they are very good already. I kept assuring my daughter this on the very night we received DGS's result.  It is true, she is very good in my eyes!! Ha, Ha......
