識兩個 case,一個讀 Victoria,一個讀 ISF,之後入 DBSPD。

Thanks! But Victoria and ISF are not really IS per se in my opinion? They are half half local/IS I believe. But good to know Victoria leads to these good offers as my girl is in Victoria pn now. Struggling between Victoria k1 Vs IS k1 (a real international school with minimal chinese... in simplified Chinese)

What made u give up IS p1 offer?

I believe we are both very traditional parents when it comes to education. We want to have a better grasp of what our kid has been doing and learning. Sadly, we're not very convinced of this at this moment. Most importantly, we're not yet very convinced of the PYP curriculum. When compared with the GCSE in the past, we feel that PYP may not guarantee our kid a solid foundation to pave his way to MYP and even DP. Kids will have to be very independent and competent in self learning in order to succeed in their studies. We foresee that a lot of COSTLY private tutoring will be needed to help him cope with his further studies in IS. Plus, we both are not confident in helping him with his studies once he encounters difficulties as we both were brought up under local schooling. With all the above concerns, it seems to us that it's not worth spending sooo much to put him to IS, unless we will 100% put him to study abroad sometime later.

Do u find IB not suitable to your kid? Or to your expectation only ?

如果一心上local school, 唔好入 IS Kindergarten, 雖然外補,但始終training 唔同!又學校又外補,費用大,小朋友一樣辛苦!

My friend had followed  this path

His dad was old boy

He could catch up with DPSPD P1 chinese because St Cat gave him fair Chinese foundation before he was admitted to ESF Yr1

I think it can't live up to our expectation. We expect the school can provide more resources for the kids, or at least provide more channels for kids to explore more but I think it's a bit disappointing to me.
We'll opt for the LS pathway now, so MAY one day consider going back to LS when we feel there's a need and he is competent for that.

We'll go back to lucky draw. Indeed there's a backup local primary school for him as he has enough scores to enter it without much difficulty. We'll also try other DSS and private schools but we don't have too much confidence in passing in the interviews.

Have been through your struggle and wanted to have IS as back up while pursuing top DSS/ private schools. Finally decided to stay in IS kindergarten (or semi IS in ur perspective) til K3. At the end lucky enough to get into an elite DSS school and got offers from a few other prestigious DSS schools too.
From my opinion, after gong thru rounds of interviews from different DSS/ private schools, I believe both attitude/ personality and academics particularly language abilities like someone mentioned above of the child counts. I myself was brought up in local schooling, I believe IS can always provide better environment to groom a person’s critical thinking, creativity, expressiveness, soft skills etc, not to mention overall English ability. Those are the things can’t be trained in tuition class, while solid knowledge like grammar, spelling, Chinese words, math can always be easily supplemented through tuition. Therefore I decided to let my child stay in non local kindy and go to tuition classes instead. Fortunately it works out.

So that also leads to the question of what kind of person ur daughter tend to be? And If you stay in Victoria, can VSA be your back up?

That’s my two cents hope it helps.

My child is now in local kinder K2 and got the offer from IS grade 1 in coming school year. My plan is to take IS offer as back up and apply private/dss same time but I’m worried how private/dss school weighting application from those studying in IS
