Have been through your struggle and wanted to have IS as back up while pursuing top DSS/ private schools. Finally decided to stay in IS kindergarten (or semi IS in ur perspective) til K3. At the end lucky enough to get into an elite DSS school and got offers from a few other prestigious DSS schools too.
From my opinion, after gong thru rounds of interviews from different DSS/ private schools, I believe both attitude/ personality and academics particularly language abilities like someone mentioned above of the child counts. I myself was brought up in local schooling, I believe IS can always provide better environment to groom a person’s critical thinking, creativity, expressiveness, soft skills etc, not to mention overall English ability. Those are the things can’t be trained in tuition class, while solid knowledge like grammar, spelling, Chinese words, math can always be easily supplemented through tuition. Therefore I decided to let my child stay in non local kindy and go to tuition classes instead. Fortunately it works out.
So that also leads to the question of what kind of person ur daughter tend to be? And If you stay in Victoria, can VSA be your back up?
That’s my two cents hope it helps.
