Creating the optimum environment is exactly what Montessori education is about.
Many parents in HK misundersand Montessori education, and thinks Montessori = Montessori teaching materials. Indeed, its philiosophies are the gem. Taking 1 or 2 hours a day/ or even a week on Monetessori teaching make no sense at all. Any qualified Montessori teachers would have told you that the cycle of learning in Montessori education is at least 3 hours, in which children could have the time to digest the information absorbed and communicate 'internally' within him/herself on the learning.
In short, Montessori's education essence are:
- prepare the environment - arrange age and ability appropriate materials for children to freely discover and work on.
- prepare the teachers themselves - teachers shall respect the children, not-to-teach but provide assistance for the children to learn themselves, observate children and prepare individual curriculum at the child's own pace.
Hope this helps you all to understand Montessori ab it more.
Honestly, in my own observation and investigations with the schools (for my children), only a few Montessori kindergartens in HK really are following the Montessori philiosophies and principles, and hence achieve what Montessori education should have achieve. |
