My girl started at 4 yrs old. she is 5.5yrs now and is still using 1/8 size. Her cello is just a normal China brand and it cost about HK$1700...
I don't think a new learners especially kids need a really goods cello since they will grow up and you need to change to a new cello with bigger size very soon.
