I am quite shock to learn that the kids from HKBUK full day class can watch 20-30 mins TV at school if they finish lunch early. I suppose the kids should learn and interacting with teachers in school. I seldom let my kids watch TV and I can't imagine them watching TV at school.

Watching Barney in school... is it acceptable?
After a year in HKBUK, I am very disappointed with the quality of education they provide.. they claim that they have the whole HKBU education dept for backup but the approach they deal with the kids is nonprofessional nor considerate.

hei hei had watching Barney at home, most of Barney is educational (like some topic related to school, polite, queue up)

As they are 3 years old or more, I think a bit TV for them is reasonable, TV is not a bad things, it is important for us how to control and monitor our children the duration and nature to enjoy.

I agree with you, especially when they say if kids finish their lunch first.I guess all kids will either not eat or eat very fast in order to watch TV. That is not appropriate.

School is not a jail, especially in the kindergarten, you need to have a comfortable environment for them to get used to, if teachers are just forcing students to study and study and study, it's meaningless, watching tv could be another tool to teach little kids, right?

I went to their seminar, did ask about tv watching. the teacher replied cuz the duration of lunch is fixed, hence if any kids have finished before the planned end time would be free to watch tv at a corner. it is not kind of incentive to finish the meal, just an activity for the kids to hang around before the next session.

Thanks for asking. I just think there are other activities rather than watching TV esp the school stressed on low student to teacher ratio. But now I realize a lot of schools let their kids watch TV before / after school or during break time. Maybe I am too nervous before.

When my son was in N1 at another kinder, he was forced to watch TV during some spare time between teaching sessions. Since he seldom watched TV at home, he chose to look out of the window for sightseeing. And I received a complaint from the teacher because of his "non-cooperative" behaviour. This is one of the reasons why I changed school for my son and let me him study at HKBUK.
I am not against TV watching either at home or at school, provided that
- the content is good
- there is a time control
- children are given option for doing other things
