My son sat for Oundle exam in the British Council in Jan and he said that the papers were very simple and the Maths papers was of Form 1 standard. The papers were as follows:
Time (AM) Subject Time (AM) Subject
10.00 - 11.00 Maths – 1 hr 11.15 - 12.15 English – 1hr
Time (PM) Subject Time (PM) Subject
2.00 - 3.00 pm Science – 1hr 3.15 - 4.00 pm Ability Test – 45 mins
For Oundle, there is 8 HK/China students out of 196 in Year 10 and 10 HK/China students out of 215 in Year 12 in this year. The class size is about 18. The requirements to be admitted to Sixth Form is at least 3 A grades and 3 B grades in HKCEE/GCSE.
Personally I only have friends whose children are studying in Monmouth School and Shrewsbury School. They highly recommend these two boarding schools for student discipline, caring and accommodation.
In fact I am asking all around to seek advice from others. My recommendation is that you would consider writing direct to school to establish relationship with Registrar and Headmaster. From this you would know which school is sincere or otherwise bureaucratic and get the first hand information. In one case, the Registrar invites us to visit him in case he comes to Hong Kong in the coming Sept though there is no place available at the moment.
According to two DB and DG parents, they recommend the following Oxbridge boarding schools whereas the DB/DG students have been successfully admitted to Oxbridge:
Abington/ Brighton/ Badminton/ Cheltehham Ladies/ Charterhouse/ Harrow/ Oundle/ Tonbridge/ Shrewsbury/ Winchester
Hopes this can help you.
