HLYIS vs JIS

請問有冇家長知道 康樂園國際 和 日本國際 的分別?

升學出路好嗎?是否很難考入呢?

小女現讀local schoolP.3,我想為她揀一間有愛心,校風好的

學校!?因小女非常內向!

謝謝!

Re: HLYIS vs JIS

Both are very good schools, HLYIS is UK curriculum, JIS not sure. Both 出路 not optimistic cos SC is extremely full and take up all students from SJS then consider outsiders. HLYIS is working on building her own secondary school and will accept students from JIS as well.

Now RC should not too hard to get in but it will be difficult in few years. Why don't you try RC then, they are one dragon system and reputation is building and I heard many good comments about it. I am in fact planning my children to study there too.

Re: HLYIS vs JIS

I am a current JIS mom and JIS is running IB curriculum. In fact, it'll officially be the IB school in a month time. As joenkm partly mentioned, these two schools have worked on the secondary school joint-project and we are likely to decide where it will finally be within 2007/2008 school year. At the moment I've seen some JIS students go to RC as the parents prefer IB to continue the trend from JIS. Also, JIS kids come from everywhere in HK, and we don't really see so much of a crisis to fit them into sec. schools. JIS only has one class per grade, while HLYIS has 2 classes per grade. JIS has Putonghua lesson (or Japanese) daily. I remember HLYIS also does has daily Putonghua, if I'm not wrong.

If you would like multi-cultural, truly English speaking with better demographics, these two are much better than RC. But I know some parents would prefer more Chinese at school for some reasons, like for the ease of the parents. In that case, RC is a better choice as you see Chinese kids everywhere and it's easier for the kids and the parents to get around.

Re: HLYIS vs JIS

gardenwoods,

I don't think there will be any problem. If you want to move your child after K2, that means your child will join JIS from P1. Correct? For as long as your child has a good English background and is able to communicate. There won't be any problem at all. In fact, I know one child who moved to JIS from HLY when he started P1.

I want to move my son from HLYIS to JIS just because JIS is a IB school (according to luluonthemoon) which is good for further study in Canada later.

Re: HLYIS vs JIS

gardenwoods,

Whether a child is able to command a good English, it doesn't only depend on which school sh/e attends, it also depends on the whole environment the child is in. We don't seem to be able to count too much on schools as the children normally spend a few hours there. But, of course, choosing an appropriate school shouldn't be overlooked as well.

I don't mean to challenge you at all, but do you really see IB curriculum (in this case, PYP) is the must for your child in primary education? I am not sure, but you may also consider sending your son to IB schools from secondary education. If you do like IB PYP and appreciate this curriculum, then, why not! Come to JIS! But just because of the ease for tertiary education, your son still has tons of time and you can think twice anytime on the way.

For children, primary schools are just like the society we growups are in. They spend most of the day there. I feel that there are many other factors to ponder, like the school size, the demographics, curriculum (content-wise), if it's close to home, language options, after school activities and a lot more.
Well, above all, if the child is happily learning, that's the thing.

So far, I like this style of teaching under IB curriculum. It seems like it takes a little while to figure out if it helps the children build a solid foundation of knowledge as they learn under a theme across the subjects. But I'm sure it's enjoyable for kids. They don't seem to be aware that they are learning.  Whatever they do, that's all connected to something else.

Re: HLYIS vs JIS

luluonthemoon,

First of all, thanks for your advice & information.

Yes, you are right, I still have plenty of time to think & plan well about the school for my son.

Basically I don't want to change many schools for my son, therefore looking for a 一條龍 IB school....As u said, HLYIS & JIS are expanding their secondary, which means no need to change school again once study from P1 at either HLYIS or JIS. Actually another IB school - RC is also one of my choices.

I believe it takes time for me to know the good or bad thing about IB curriculum, however, the happiness of my son is my most concern when choosing which school to him.

Talk to u.

Re: HLYIS vs JIS

joenkm,
Toddler class?? Do u mean the playgroup every Tue & Thu?? As I know, HLYIS doesn't have class for 2 yrs old kids except playgroups.
I visited HLYIS couple weeks ago and found the playgroups were pretty relaxing....Meanwhile, I will let him study another nursery when he is 2. And then switch to HLYIS's when he's 2.8 yrs old.
