my son has been accepted immediate after interview with the principal... i think it's not very hard to be accepted...

but i m still struggle about letting my son study in CSS...

My girl is a F1 student of CSS.  She came from CPS & copes well secondary school life there.  But she would be angry sometimes as some classmates are lazy & passive in group work.

From our observation, it seems students from various schools have different levels.  Some are very smart & proactive while some can't cope well.

CSS expects students to be active in learning.  There are a lot of projects & presentations.  They do a lot of quiz & assessment throughout the years.  No formal exam.  Teachers are firm as compared with those in international schools.

what is the percentage of those lazy students??? my son will be in S2 in coming sept, that means the same form with yr daughter. it's so nice to talk to u in here.

does yr daughter like this school??? do u hv any more comments on the teachers and academic standard of the school.

I can't tell the project amount as my daughter will complete her tasks without my assistance & I don't have to check her work.  But surely, the work/ project will be counted in the report (also including the student's attitude in learning, cooperation etc.)

Conercning to comment on teachers, I can't tell also as I had missed the 2 chances of "3-way conference" (i.e. meeting teacher together with student & parents).  I don't have to directly contact the teachers cause my daughter had no major complaint/ conduct problem.

Regards to the academic issue, it seems to me that range is wide (according to my daughter's observation).  My daughter uses to get along with those of similar level/ motivated classmates.  They are mostly at the top group (suprisingly, there was ranking as announced before Easter Holiday).

I seldom find my girl revising her learned subjects/ books.  She gives excuses that she has made throughout preparation in her projects.  And the learnt material are all in her mind already!!

F1 had 'outward bound 4-day training' this year while F2 had 'day trip with theme'.

For F3, they will have oversea study tour various from China, Vietam to New Zealand.

As far as I know, there was trip with theme of 'Art & Museum' to Paris last year. This year, my girl told me there will be an exchange student program (only 1 quota) to Denmark early next year.

All these program are optional but it would be best to join especially the F1 & F2 programs.

CSS is using the local curriculum with the IB teaching method.
Do the students need to write a lot for math homework?
How is workload of homework?

Yes. Their homework/ assessment for maths are different from what I know in the past. They have to write a lot so as to explain the details. You can get higher marks even your answer is wrong but explanation is given in correct trend.

The workload is acceptable but there are students delaying homework on & off.

The students' subject grade will be shown from 1-7 according to IB scale, right? What is the passing mark? When will the school have the graduates?

Do the students have textbook to follow?

For F1, some subjects' grading may be 7 to 8 as highest mark. I didn't hear my daughter talking about passing mark issue. But some students may get only 1-2 marks in their homework or assessment.

F5 is the highest form at CSS. That is the graduates will be leaving school in 2012 summer.

Some subjects may need textbooks.

English is the main media for teaching & Putonghua for Chinese. That means you need to speak in English even for PE, art or cookery.

Both English & Chinese subjects are divided into level A (more difficult) & B (easier). School will separate students according to their language abilities.

Other subjects= no level difference;
PE, Art & cookery... will be grouped into own house (6 houses totally).

Could the students deal with 334 system and IB system together when they promote to S3?
That means they need to familiar with both 334 and IB system, right?
