If your son is 5 years old before May / June 08, you should be looking at Kindergarten and not preschool (if his birthday is after May / June 03, then you are correct in looking for pre-school).

http://www.echildcare.com.au/baulkham-hills-1/
This link is a list of early learning centres in the Hills District (which includes Baulkham Hills). Note that preschool programs are also available in most child care centres. Vacancies really depends on whether they have any students dropping out during the year - as most of the good ones are waiting list only, so will start the school year with full classes.

Hope this helps.

Dear Sbandliz,

Thank you very for your sharing.  i have noted that you help many friends solving their problems and and answering their questions in this platform. I just want to express my appreciation.

I will immigrate with my 2-year-old girl and 9-year-old boy to Sydney in coming July. We will stay in Epping. Where do you live?

Immigration is a big decision, I worry about my future there? My husband is in Sydney, looking for an I.T. job, it seems very difficult to find one. He is still working hard on this.

The purpose of immigration is because I believe that the education in Australia is better than in Hong Kong. That's why I go for it!

Hope that I am not disturb you.  Thank you.

warm regards,
bigbig mother

I live in North Epping (the otherside of Epping Station).

I found it is a nice place to live. Got 2 reasonable High Schools (Cheltenham Girls & Epping Boys). Close to Macquarie Uni & North Ryde (lots of companies there). Train & Buses are fairly convinient (of course train frequency is not as good as north shore, but house prices is a bit cheaper).

Good luck with your move.

Hi Sbandiz,

Thank you for your reply.  Cheltenham girl is a good school because I have 4 nieces studied there. But Epping Boy seems not as good as the past. I also worry when my boy  need to enter High school, where I should move.  My boy will enter grade 4 in primary school when he  goes to Sydney in July.
Does your child go to child care? where does he/she go? how much is that cost?

Thank you.

I have changed to working part time 3 years ago since the arrival of my youngest. My 3 yr old doesn't go to daycare, a family friend helps me to look after him 3 days per week, and he goes to my Mum-in-law's 1 day per week. He will go to pre-school next year when he is 4.

Childcare is very expensive, price range from $70 to $100 per day (depends on how much you can get back from the government, which is determined by your income).

http://www.hornsby.nsw.gov.au/servicesfacilities/index.cfm?NavigationID=615
Look at this link (with details on pricing etc) - this childcare centre is run by Hornsby Council. Eastwood is next to Epping, and this centre is fairly new.

This is another fairly new childcare centre at Epping.

Note that I have only made enquiries at these centres 4 years ago, but my kids have not actually been to these centres - so you will need to have a look and decide for yourself.

Don't worry about your son's High School.

He will sit for a test for the selective High School during March in Year 6. If he gets into a selective High School - that is great. If not, there are a couple of good High Schools not that far. Holy Cross College on Victoria Road Gladesville is good. Epping Boys is not that bad - one of their student came top in Chemtisty in last year's HSC, so you know they got a very good Chemistry teacher at least.

My son is in year 1 only, so I got a couple more years to hunt for a good High School for him.

Hello F.Forest,

We are all so close, Carlingford is right next to Epping.

My 3 kids are a bit older - 3 / 6 / 9. The youngest will go to pre-school next year. We are planning to send him to St Dunstan at Denistone East. Very good school, teachers are great, plus it is close to the primary school my kids are in.

Unfortunately I can't help with picking childcare or pre-school since I have been very lucky in having the family friend who has helped me with all 3 kids since they were 6 mth old. She loves my kids as if they are her own.

Good luck with school hunting.

Hi F. Forest,

Thanks for your warm regards.  I have not start to pack yet. But the time is so tight now as my son and daughter have got so many activities in every weekend. So I don't have time to buy and pack! I must grasp the public holiday which's not Sat. and Sunday to do packing.

Take care.
