小朋友會按照能力分組, 而且也會re-grouping, 小朋友和家長的壓力會否很大? 另外, 是否每位同學也有很多表現的機會? 還是會集中給成績較佳的學生?

答 : 就我所知道是: 合唱團, 手鈐隊, 這2個是老師會叫有興趣的同學揾老師報名,不是點名入隊的, 但要不要再考就不知道啦! 因為囡囡沒有參加! 朗讀隊就有出通告邀請小朋友參加!

聽講今年小一的課程已經比前兩年小一深咗，學校對他們的要求高咗，係唔係同外面的傳统名校差不多呢？算唔算好事呢？另外今年中一收38人，中一全級有幾多小六直升上去呢？

SMC 近年收到的學生質數愈來愈高，學校對他們的要求也相應提高；中文科和數學科是按照學生的年級來教，不像傳統名校般教高半級或一級。

2010/2011 中一級學生中有65名是由小學部升上的(曾有一位中一生的家長說過)。

是否我仔仔開始學背乘數表，就由個位乘法開始？或者學校會否在小一入學不久之後就評估分組？

乘數表?  not on this year's P.1 Math Syllabus.

一年級數學科課程未需要學乘數，學生會在小一升至小二的暑假期間練習背乘數表(聽說坊間有乘數表歌仔CD，但我沒有用過，不知其功效)。

聽說學校會根據小朋友在 interview 表現去決定他們在開學時上不同科目的組別，然後在1st and 2nd assessment 後會重組(但學校不想學生有太大的變動，所以這重組是很小型的)，直至學生由一年級升至二年級時，該次重組便很明顯了。

homework club is not complusory.  Basically the whole P.1 is 適應期, first few days are orientation day, and throughout the year classroom setting is just like kinder with tables in group and cubby hole for school works.  No Eng dictation until Nov and Chinese dictation until late Dec.  2-3 homework per day.  workload is not much compared to some kinder.

咁SMC的上課模式, 會近傳統學校(坐定定, 聽課, 有時分組討論, 主要由老師教授), 還是國際學校(聽課後以討論分享為主, 著重探究, 鼓勵發言, 創意)呢?  謝謝!

Maybe parents from more senior grade may better answer your q.  I heard my daughters that there are lots of game in Math.  and For Eng, they once asked the students to re-write the story in their own words after looking the cartoon film "snowman".

can the children spell the words for the English writing? My daughter can read and speak certain English vocab but she might not be able to spell them out.

I cannot tell others, but for my daughter, there is quite a lot of spelling mistakes.  But the teacher said the purpose of Free Eng writing is for the children to enjoy writing, so he asks us parents not to correct any grammatical mistake or spelling.  When they progress, reading more and writing more, they will improve.  but the key point is not to scare them and make them stop writing by re-do order from parents or red cross from teachers.  However, for other English exercise, spelling, grammar and pountuation mistake are marked and being corrected.

Feedback like 'My daughter and I read your story together and we enjoyed it very much' , ' I enjoyed visiting your home'(on a project about my home), They are all very encouraging so that child will be eager to work on the next project or writing.

I prefer such feedback more. :) I am just worried that my daughter would not want to write some words if she can't spell them. She asks for "perfect" most of the time. sigh..
