How many DSS/PRIVATE school will you apply ?

我記得你提過以前响邊度讀.. 如果我地住港島，我老公都會想個仔入返去讀.. 不過~ 佢地中學好似大不如前喇！
其實佢地 old boy 有無分加架？我成日問自己: 到底值唔值得報埋~但入到又煩！ (住得遠呀！)

yes, your husband and I were from the same school.  Was he from the primary section too?

I think there is around 5-10% of the total points are for the sons of old boys.  I am not sure if they make it official though.

Concerning the secondary school, I guess your husband should know our situation well enough.  Frankly, the quality drops mainly affected by the quality of students intake, partly contributed to the brilliant placement system by the EDB.  If taking this factor out, this school actually has the highest value-added scores in the entire district (this is confidential).

Another factor is the style of the school has just been too low-profile for a long time for parents to even remember their existence.  We are in the process of improving this and hope it will works out eventually.

For me, just hate to see the little one go through all those interviews.  They are only 5!!!!  The whole thing sounds too crazy!  Or I should put it this way: I'm too lazy!

我建議報名就越多越好, 因為小朋友會病, 又有好多interview撞時間. 到時好多都會唔去/去唔到.

報左名至少有得諗去唔去, 唔報就會後悔做乜唔預備好.

然後其實嚮interview的過程當中, 你都會有後著, e.g. 發現自己小朋友其實適合邊d小學. 因為我地初初好鐘意一間英文為主的, 然後發覺唔岩阿仔; 然後又鐘意另一間, 點知interview時覺得D老師唔得; 又再然後睇好多comment, 才知間學校係咩類型, 唔岩阿仔.

所以報多D無所謂, 去唔去 或者 interview後有唔同感覺又唔定

我報左11間, 分三個layer, 三間名校, 四間中等, 三間後備(/實習), 只有一間無去, 但都有一間後悔無報, 因為後來真係好累了...

但真係間間都好多人爭, 去下都叫做有機嘛.

後來我地選果間都係原本諗住唔報, 然後諗住都係報左先, 費是後悔.
點知in完真係覺得好好, 老師好, 學生又有禮貌, 我地都好鐘意.

basically no points except if the primary section is private/ DSS and it decided to give some preferences to old boys from both primary and secondary section.  This can only be found out by asking the school administration directly.

hehe~ c6由KG讀到中六呀！之後去咗美國讀U

原來係咁...  
當初諗過搬出九龍，咁過海都OK, 但e+最終都只係搬去大圍，幾好都無用！但係我相信，如果d仔讀返daddy 母校，一定會好開心！

me too (I mean exactly the SAME from KG to Form 6, then to the states)!

I know they have school buses to Kowloon side for the primary section, but not sure if it will reach Tai Wai.  But I am sure it will be a happy thing for the sons to go to the same school as their father.  I guess you can always decide later.

Do you know they have a pre-P1 program which takes around 7 months?  Accepted students can go to the school every Saturday and have bridging program for P1.  All these costs just a few hundred only (I forget around $200-300).  May be can try it and feel it before you decide whether to move again.

Now get me thinking to try to have one more tim!

Then I graduated two years earlier than him.  May be he would know who I am since I am older than him, if he is active in school.  We may find out that later.

I guess application to P1 may probably follow a similar strategy as another parent suggested earlier, apply more to experience different schools thru the process.  I think the P1 process would give more information to parents than the kindergarten process since there are open days and info-session.  I would wanna try that too since I don't wanna limit my daughters' options.  Unfortunately, I do feel exhausted after the interviews we went through the past few years.  May be I will change my mind during the summer holiday.

I guess one thing for sure about the school of your husband and I graduated: we may not produce a student with the best academic result, but we are good men!

Too few = too risky
Too many = too tiring (for parents and kid)

Bear in mind that some interviews will clash and you have to make a choice.  It was with much effort that I could avoid any clash.  

Making applications are not just about submitting the application form and attending the interviews - portfolios for different schools (as they may have different requirements and preferences), researching for the vision, objectives and methodology of each school, registering for and attending admission seminars (if any), interview preparation, etc.  Maybe we are not very capable parents, as we could handle 8 schools only and we were already stressed out by them.

每個小朋友引導的方法不同，有些較接受 "挑戰式"，有些要多點鼓勵，你可以利用你的小朋友較接受的一套引導方法來改進面試表現。

有D家長越報越唔想去IN, 有D就越IN越想報多幾間當買保險。

其實樓主可以先MARK低大約有幾多間係非報不可既, 再上網睇舊資料，睇下大約幾時會INTERVIEW, 撞期機會大唔大。由於上年10月有一個星期六係公眾假期，所以10月時好多間學校都安排左10月9號INTERVIEW, 好多家長都撞到九彩。

但要留意面試日期…因極有可能同日。
