試讀一年國際學校,可否轉番讀local小學？

I have a similar plan.  We prefer the better local schools but if we cannot get a place, we will put our son in reception class and let him try the local school as a big boy the next year.  Do you think if it works?

IS 同 Local school 真係好唔同, 如果抱着試試吓的心態, 祇會另小朋友無所適從.

It is possible but your kid would have a hard time doing it. I advise you not to do it. Reason as follow:

There is a different between IS and local school. Ever since kindergarten, the school is prepared for a different type of teaching method. K3 is a very important year for a kid to be prepared to start P1 in a local school whereas Reception class in a IS does no way as much as drawing skills for little kids in preparation for learning to write chinese charater.If you decided to send your kid back to a local school eventually, why eliminate a very important year of learning and praticing chinese character that would affect him /her later on?

As everyone know that it is hard enough for a ordinary K3 kid to get used to changing in P1 school year. Think twice before making your decision.

If yours kids are already in Grade 5 & 8 coming back from overseas, their Chinese standard is too far below the local standard, so it will be too painful for them to switch back to local schools, unless the local schools allow students taking other foreign languages instead of Chinese.

I want to know why after only one year at RC, you want to switch school.

It was our plan last year because we did not know whether RC was a good school or whether it fit our son.  Therefore, we applied for local DSS as a contingency measure (we were allowed to apply for local private schools or subsidized schools but we did not).   During this year, my son loves the school as well as his classmates so much and we find the school can meet our expectations in many aspects.  Therefore, we decide to let our son continue his study at RC next year.

Our case may be different from yours because we set RC as our first choice.  Applying for local schools was just a contingency measure.  You seem to prefer good local school more.  If so, you may need to consider whether your son/daughter will be reluctant to change.  If he/she tells you he/she doesn't want to change, what will you do?

I would like to know that, in your case, whether it is purely financial issues, or it is problems with/at RC that you want to find another school. If it is the latter, I would like to know more. Do you mind telliing us?

Since the email from the Principal said there will be a talk in that evening of 6-20, but you said we can go between 1:00 - 8:00pm.  Is it an open day on that day?  Will there be any guided tour around the school? Thanks.

As I know, the last school tour for 07-08 will be held tomorrow from 10:00 to 11:30am.

On 20/6, 7:00pm to 8:00pm will introduce the school curriculum for the coming year only.
