少數直資生未適應英語教學

　　(星島日報報道)直資學校須於創校或轉制後第五年，接受全面評鑑，上學年有七所學校完成視學，教統局昨公布四校的評鑑報告。標榜國際化的香港管理專業協會李國寶中學，有不少外籍教師及學生，被讚揚成功營造多元校園文化，但報告指，該校的外籍與年輕教師流失率偏高，亦有部分學生未能適應英語教學。

　　李國寶中學的評鑑報告指出，校方上學年增聘十名外籍教師，亦取錄不少非華裔學生，成功營造國際化的校園文化。然而，本地與外籍教師合作時面對困難，雖然校方能維持教師之間和諧氣氛，但外籍及年輕教師的流失率較高，建議校方更積極挽留教師。

　　報告又指，少數學生未能適應英語教學，亦有非華裔學生在以中文表達時，顯得信心不足。而低年級學生的學習動機較弱，不少人未能達到升班要求，建議校方加強支援有學習困難的學生。

　　觀塘的九龍利瑪竇書院則被指，學生未能養成自學習慣，表達能力稍弱，公開試成績亦較全港水平為低﹔而部分教師表現強差人意，如課堂設計的目標不清及教學內容不足等。

　　但報告讚揚，該校在支援學生成長表現出色，學生積極參與服務，曾兩度獲義務工作發展局的金獎。

　　沙田區德信中學的評鑑報告稱讚，該校成功營造英語學習環境，大部分學生能有效運用英語表達，只有部分低年級學生較難達到要求。學生於○五年的會考五科及格率較全港日校水平為低，而中、英、數成績明顯較科學科目好。

　　觀塘的福建中學在中、英、數及通識科推行小班教學，評鑑報告指，措施有效提高對能力弱學生的支援，該校學生在公開試更有出色表現，但仍有少數學生未能適應英語教學，建議學校注意學生在英語能力上的差異。

我正考慮幫阿仔報直資中學，但有部份剛校創校1年至3年，未有這些視學報告。請問你知唔知還有哪些途徑可以了解這些學校呢?

Most new DSS can only take in band 2 to 3 students as most band 1 students will choose band 1 govt schools.  So even DSS use many native English teachers, it does not mean that the English standard of secondary students can be raised in a short time.  It takes many years to improve.

It is easier for the schools to develop higher standard students starting from primary.  So some DSS with through train from primary to secondary may be better in future.

Totally agree! It takes time for a school to raise its standard so as to attract more top students there. As more famous and traditional schools such as DBS, DGS, etc. being changed into DSS, it would be even harder for the new DSS ones to perform well as compared to these traditional ones as the better students prefer to go into these developed schools rather than taking risks in the newly developed ones. The only way they can do is to have a very clear theme and aims of the school such as sports, ECA or services so that students excel in these areas may like to enter. :wink:
