Dear Vanessa-ma,

Each student can request for 1 reference letter from the school only, such that if you should request for one for this coming Sept, you cannot request for another more up to date reference letter in June (should you wish to go for 3rd round 'knock door' then).

Your daughter's class teacher will explain all these during the 1st parents' meeting in Sept.

I suggest you to request the referral letter from the Principal not until there is a real need.  If every parent put the referral letter in the profile at initial stage, it will be a standard one, nothing special.  Remember, you should have something special to show to the school when you attend interview from waiting list.  The letter will be more useful at later stage to single out your kid.

You should ask the letter before summer vacation so that you can get it on early September.  It takes 2-3 weeks, the contents are mainly the same as the comment from your previous report.

DGS and most schools require you to submit the application form together with the reference letter on mid September.  Last year, I ask SC for the reference letter on early September and still cannot get it before DGS's deadline.

You have to write a letter to SC for requisition.

I asked for the reference letter in early Sept.  It took about 1 week for the school to prepare the letter.   As HappyTogether said, the contents of the letter is depended on your child's report and the class teacher comments.

Mrs Chan only writes one letter for one school. So it all depends you want the letter for applying private school or 叩門 after central allocation.

So the choice of time to ask for the reference letter is important.

You only need to write a simple requisition letter to the school, either Chinese or English.

If you request the class teacher for the letter, she will ask you to write a simple letter so that she can pass it to the office for preparation.
