I recalled that the priority for ESF interview of students from ESF kindergartens would be cancelled. But from the official website, it is still applicable for Year 1 central applications in Sep 2015. Any hints?

The current pecking order ...

1.Are Corporate Nomination Rights Nominees
2.Are the children of full-time staff at ESF or ESF Educational Services Ltd
3.Are siblings of students already attending an ESF primary or secondary school or Jockey Club Sarah Roe School
4.Are Individual Nomination Rights Nominees
5.Are the children of former students who have attended an ESF school for a minimum of 3 years or are former ESF students returning from a period overseas
6.Are children attending an ESF International Kindergarten* [Note: contingent upon the child studying in the kindergarten continuously until the end of term 3 prior to entry into primary school]
7.Are other applicants who can benefit from an English-medium education

Seems non Esf kinder students will have almost no chance if Esf primary continues to adopt s screening (rather than selective) approach as in the past. Does anyone know if this will change?

The situation is really not that bad for non ESF kindergarten children, because there are hundreds of places left for them even if all ESF kindergarten pupils proceed to ESF primary schools. From personal observation, may be around 60% of ESF Y1 students are from ESF kindergartens.

I should add that ESF will be opening a new kindergarten in Tung Chung next year, so that will change the situation somewhat, and not in favour of non ESF kindergarten children.

But that would be even worse if it goes the other way, losing kinder priority while you were in ESF kinder

So I m just ahead of the kindy, does that mean a high chance to get a spot given a pass in the interview?

I thought they will stick to the principle that cancelling priority should not affect existing students, no?

Bear in mind it is only my (very) rough estimate based on what I see at Y1 classes of one ESF Foundation school, so don't take the figure too seriously. Also I don't know if those non-ESF kindergarten children had other forms of priority, such as sibling or alumni status or Nomination Right.

What I wanted to bring out is, it is not impossible for non-ESF kindergarten children to be admitted, they do have a fair chance, but obviously less chance than ESF kindergarten children.

I was planning to put my boy to Esf kinder. After knowing that kinder student has no priority when applying primary, I need to think carefully. It is very risky to put him to kinder which has no admission priority to primary while other schools almost guarantee a seat for year 1.!
