Yes of course.  You can see that during the interviews in some schools.

Social networking is as important, if not more important than, academic results etc.

How did you see during the interview?

I have gone to a couple of schools before (won't name them here of course).  The principal asked for the number / name of the student(s) after talking to the parents who they seem to know.
I personally know someone who has good network with a school's advisor so their daughter was guaranteed a place before the interview (the interview was just to make sure she got the number so that the advisor can ask the teachers to proceed with the application accordingly regardless of the interview results).

間間學校都有，只不過睇下多定少！
通常人事都要面試睇下個小朋友，唔太差都一定收！所以佢地都會話自己考入去
因為都一定會見過

Just like a job interview.

If you know the higher management or the director, then you have a better chance of getting the job even if you are not the best candidate.

That's life.

好老實, 絕對有。但只視乎個别學校。
又好老實, 就算真係識人, 人地都會叫你從正途考下先, 你仔女考到就唔駛幫啦!
考唔到, 識途老馬先會出手。所以其實最影響Waiting list的考生, 而不會影響正選考生的。

一個好實在既例子發生過我身上. 幾年前朋友個仔同我個小朋友一齊IN K1, 佢無讀過PN, 講野唔叻, 指令做錯晒.. 都入到好出名既稚幼園上午班.. 所以對呢個GAME 唔好太認真. :;pppp: 我果個小朋友當然係....

In short, the social networking circle is very important in life.

Being able to expand the social network is also a skill and talent of its own.  

To me, that's perfectly fair.
