My feeling is, this process is not for the kid only but for the family. Especially when you start P1, can your family manage in the transportation? Spending too much time on school bus will exhaust the kid, then no energy to do homework, and then you are angry when you are back home at night ... ... The kids cannot take ECA because no one will pick him up and they are upset about that ... ...No time for the younger brother or sister ... ...
Don't just think about the 教學理念 of the school (any way they may mislead you too). Get more information about the practical side which will affect the daily operation of your whole family so much.
reply to momama, and also want to ask other parents, actually,
how long of the transportation is considered "long"?
for primary school, when is the acceptable time to "arrive home"?
and when do usually the kids go to bed?
my girl wakes up at 6:15, gets on school bus at 6:45am, arrives home by nanny bus at 3:15pm, goes to sleep at 9-9:30pm.
if she comes home by school bus, she arrives at 4pm! the nanny bus is too full to drive her school in the morning, so I pay on both sides, in order to save 45mins a day.
thanks momama. May I ask what time does school start / end? I want to have a feeling about how much "time" should be spent on the schoolbus / nannybus to be reasonable.
Ths!
If you ask me, reasonable time is 30min. People say it worths to travel to 天腳底 if the school is good. Don't think about that!
My neighbour gets on school bus at 6:15 and be back at 4:30 (no ECA). How much time have you left? To me, a kid should sleep for 9-10hrs at night to be fully energized. Roughly one hour to have relaxing dinner. So at the end, you have to move home.
Remember if it is a must to join ECA after school, you have no time at all.

Agree!! If the kids are really smart to get in a very good school, parents should consider moving the home. Too long travelling time is really not good for the kids. And if moving is not possible (due to financial reason etc), then better choose the "2nd ideal" school that is not so far away.
