Last year experience:

Part 1 -
Small group (3 pairs - kid and one parent) in a small table to do some art work with an English teacher. Mine is to do playdoh (birthday cake); then switch to a table with Chinese teacher. Follow the teacher's instructions to play with the toys.

Part 2 -
Follow teacher to sing and dance then say thank you when the teacher gives out souvenir/small toy.

Oh! That's going to be a problem cuz my son doesn't likes to touch any sticky things like playdoh. He tried 2 times in playgroup but he threw the sticky stuffs away.

Did the teacher ask you any questions last year? How long did the interview last for?

Mine is a little bit different.

4 pairs of parents and kids.

Part One

Free play in the room. Kids can get the toys or books that they like. One of the teacher talk with the kids.(Cantonese)

Part Two

Story telling and ask the kid which cat (color) does he/she like. After that, sing a song and dance together. Give  a gift and say bye-bye.


Around 15 mins and no question to parents.

No questions for parents.  For the Chinese part, some toys on the table and the child could pick whatever they want, then the teacher gave simple instructions (e.g., can you put three rings into stick?).  They expect the kids to react or follow instructions.

我想問下呢, 當teacher 比instruction 小朋友時, 家長在旁邊就不能出聲呀?  例如repeat 多一次instruction等, 並不是作出任何提示.

Should be ok to give some instructions I think. The kids are so young (1+ only).. it should be fine to help.

There are teachers around to observe and therefore interaction between kids and parents would be important too.

Oh... my son is actually only 16 mths old. Hasn't started Playdoh yet.

luckily that I check this topic.  I have totally forgotten about the interview!!!

My daughter also doesn't like sticky or fluffly things,too.

我個仔都係5號in,何文田.佢一定唔識只係諗住多個機會見吓人,佢好怕羞.

Dancing part is important - they test if the baby will dance when music starts.

Storytelling part - they will observe if the baby is attentive. usually if baby is used to storytelling ( at home or in playgroup), then they will be more attentive.

Finally, teacher approach each baby to give the toy - many babies are too shy and don't take the toy from strangers.

These are the tips.
