請問現時K1是有多少班?

在我記憶中, 明明是上午校各3班, 30人一班, 即共有180人, 但我看其他人在討論升小一的post 中, 說一級4班即240人, 而我在聖心的新收生指引中, 又表示會收上,下午校各4班240人...是否我記錯了, 還是10/11的K1收比較少學生?

There are total 10 classrooms available in the kindergarten (approved by EDB)

This year UK: Total 8 classes (am+pm) occupying 4 classrooms
This year LK: Total 6 classes(am+pm) occupying 3 classrooms
This year NC: Total 6 classes(am+pm) occupying 3 classrooms

So, as this year UK graduate, the 4 classrooms will become available.  Therefore, the coming year NC will also be 8 classes(am+pm), which is 240 students.

Ian....I have so much worry about this issue...given we have 240 K1 students for the coming Sept 2011/12, that means we are facing very keen competition 3 yrs later. Can you please share with me about your view on this issue???
i.e. is it much less chance to get into SH (Private section A.M.)???
and I heard from my friend that it's really tough for P.5 & P.6 students due to the keen competition to get into SH Secondary School....

Aren't your daughter in the best position to be admitted to SH private section already?  So what is the worry?

There are competitions anywhere nowadays.  Nevertheless, I have explained about this for so many times, I guess I will keep it short and just provide additional information to supplement that.

First of all, the upcoming NC (K1) students situation is not the same as the current graduating UK (K3) classes.  Although they both have 4x2 classes of students, that is 240 students.  However, private section has only 3 classrooms available this coming year while they will have 4 classrooms three years later.  So, for the private section side, there are approx 35-40 additional seats in P1, for the additional 60 students from kindergarten.

So, whether this is such a significant issue to be worried?  Certainly I don't think so.  I think there are always one point which many parents (including me at first) who may make a false assumption: we assume everyone in SHCK wanna study in SHCSPS.  Unfortunately that is not true.

In the past few years, the percentages of SHCK heading to SHCS (pm, gov't aided section) is around 30-40%!  Minus approx 10% boys, and another 15-20% getting offers from SPCCPS, DGJS, and other girls schools like Marymount, St. Mary's etc thru either discretionary places and central allocation.  You can easily know how many students are actually aiming for SH private section.  So, what is the worry?

Concerning p5 and p6, I can't see what is the differences in SH and with other primary schools.  The examinations are used as basis for the S1 allocation, so of course students all have to be under pressure to achieve better results.  I believe often time some parents make comments on situation only because they are not fully aware of the situation only.  So it is always good to know more ahead.  Good luck!

haha, I said "etc..." wor!  There are many other options a parent can take!

This year has a larger base so percentage may be lower.  If only include SPCC, DGJS, Marymount, St. Mary's and Maryknoll (5 schools), this year should be above 10% for what I know so far.  Still too soon to tell as it's just June now!

I don't wanna give you too high an expectation!

Since both DP and lucky draw have been allowed for the past three years after accepting am offers, naturally some people would be lucky to receive offers since they have nothing to lose.

In a sense, the allocation tells you the general perception what some (not all) parents prefer:
(1) Elite schools like SPCCPS and DGJS for those who are willing and able to pay more;
(2) EMI gov't aided schools like Marymount and Maryknoll ( I guess many parents do think EMI is better);
(3) One-dragon band 1 school, that is St. Mary's (so parents don't need to worry of S1).

Just to share.  Not sure if you can tell my meaning in behind this time.

What can I say, options are here, doors are open, but the most important thing is parents must learn to appreciate these.  All these are make available by the open-minded Sisters and teachers.

Didn't we discuss about this long ago already (just ring a bell)!

Hi Ian,
BTW when will the school inform the parents the offer of the private primary section? Is it before the first round allocation? If so unlucky without SH primary school offer, still need to apply other schools for backup which is stressful to the parents.  And also when will those holding the places of primary sections release the offers? So is it finally nearly all can study in primary section(but needed to wait for those releasing the offers)?  Thanks!

Since this process has only been used once this year, I can only use this year info to reply your question.

The result is announced around 2-3 weeks before the announcement of discretionary places.  So, it should be early November/ late October.

Concerning those who are put on waiting list (all applied from SHCK), most of them have been accepted already.  I have not been updated the past two weeks so not sure if the remaining few have also been offered yet.  But I do expect this to happen before school start.
