Repeat K1 at St Catherine

My girl is a 'little kid' and has luckily been admitted to SC K1 in 2010.  Just worry she can't follow the progress at KG.  Even so, being a 'little kid', she may have a hard time at primary school.  Anyone know that SC allows little kids to repeat K1?  Or we need to change to another KG to repeat K1/2/3?

i think if your daughter can handle the workload in SC, just let her promote to K2. Unless she really can't handle it. I would leave the chance for being repeat one year until she find difficulties in later years, for example, primary school.

I think is too early to say this as you have to let your daugther to try first.  My kid is also a small BB (but not been admiited by SC), you have to trust you kid, who knows what their ability will be?

收得你個囡即刻你個女得啦. 你對你個囡咁冇信心. 如果你個囡依家已讀梗 N1 就更加冇問題啦. 我個囡依家2歲3個月讀梗果間學校都係教梗一 d K1 的野. 我自己在家都教佢串生字, 比中文字佢睇, 當然佢唔識, 但起碼比佢睇吓嘛. 我之前去過上一 d 家長上的堂. 話小朋友 1-3 歲係硬件輸入法. 我每日抱佢返學都在她的耳邊不停咁串字. 佢依家我講 cat 佢可以讀比我聽. 所以唔好諗住自己個女細就唔及大B.

I agree with Mamameee very much.  I experienced the same problem with my eldest girl, who is now P3 already.  She had good academic result in KG but she was a "small B".  Every year I struggled to let her to repeat but the teacher said it's unneccessary as her academic was OK.  Finally she was accepted by a very good primary school so I let her to promote to primary school anyway.  Although she has OK academic result, but she was relatively immature than those 'big girls' in terms of social skills and self-care skills. Usually, the 'small B' effect starts to gradually disappear since P3...
So, my recommendations are:
- repeat earlier better than later (K1 better than K3, KG better than Primary school

St. Cat. K1會group埋差不多月份出生的小朋友同一班, 9-12月的細b會同一班, (我地有些家長覺得)可能會搵些特別識教細b的老師做班主任.
所以你唔需要太擔心. 學校面試後收你的小朋友, 即係學校都有信心教到小朋友啦. 你放心俾仔仔讀啦. St. Cat. K1應該是很輕鬆的, 不用寫字.

另, 我仔是9月出世, 當年st. cat收下午班, 我寫信要求轉上午, 最後成功轉到. 但就安排唔到入細b那班, 最後同班的同學個個4-5月出世.

A teacher from SC has told me that the school does not allow "repeat" (for sure).  But I believe the school is capable to help your kid to adapt.

Thanks for your information.  I'll led my girl try and see how she goes.  But I just worry when she's promoted to primary school.  Apart from the 'lucky draw', most of us would apply for private schools or DSS schools.  And I've heard that being small kids, the chance for admission is pretty low (of course, it's depended on the children's ability).  And life may be very hard for small kids, espcially in those famous traditional school (that's my cup of tea ).
