Dear all,
I have just noticed a very stupid typo when I write to introduce Dr Collins.
It should read:
Unless he has changed his position from his book, he does reject ID and creationism as scientific theories. However, he well explains why he can be a Christian without discrediting Darwin's theory.
I have also just found out that Dr Freeman J Dyson, I am a little fan of his, is a christian and he is also one of the few outstanding scientists still remaining with us from the 40's of the last century. He is now 86 years old.
May I quote his words to support my view that Jesus had well concluded one aspect of our discussion with his words in Mark 21:17.
Dyson wrote:
“ Science and religion are two windows that people look through, trying to understand the big universe outside, trying to understand why we are here. The two windows give different views, but they look out at the same universe. Both views are one-sided, neither is complete. Both leave out essential features of the real world. And both are worthy of respect.
Trouble arises when either science or religion claims universal jurisdiction, when either religious or scientific dogma claims to be infallible. Religious creationists and scientific materialists are equally dogmatic and insensitive. By their arrogance they bring both science and religion into disrepute.
The media exaggerate their numbers and importance. The media rarely mention the fact that the great majority of religious people belong to moderate denominations that treat science with respect, or the fact that the great majority of scientists treat religion with respect so long as religion does not claim jurisdiction over scientific questions.”
The above quote is from his speech:
PROGRESS IN RELIGION
A Talk By Freeman Dyson

You can read more about him from wikipedia and I would like to recommend two of his books for our kids' reading.
Disturbing the Universe, 1979
Infinite in All Directions, 1988
