It is a thoughtful and valuable experience, thanks for sharing.

Around the same time of last year, I brought my boy to attend many interviews (P1 admission)with a great hope because he has been certified as a gifted child (IQ average score 144), well, it was a good news but also a burden.

The outcomes were disappointing, he failed in all interviews. In this circumstance, we put him into the discretionary allocation, in the first round, he couldn't get into the school that we like; but he got in the school we selected in the second round.

Now, he is enjoying his new school life and walking on his own path... 塞翁失馬焉知非福?

我覺得協恩的校長進一步印證此想法, 鋼琴八級亦不是學校的concern. 學校要看的, 是學生臨場的發揮.

女拔戴校長亦曾表明看的是學生面試的表現, 其實學校並不需要家長交portfolio, 但如果家長想交學校都會收, 不過由此可見, 學校根本不重視portfolio內容, 只是為了滿足家長的"心願"才收下.

有特異功能,很多學校都要。有些當然要來為校增光。但有些同學真的在某方面有明顯天賦，都要有一些傳統學校照顧這些成績較一般的人。不過可惜的是我估計，收特異功能學生的原因以“為校增光”為主!

Sorry I have been sick while busy for a while so there are only limited capacity for me to attend to this thread.

It is wonderful to be able to spend time with own children.  No matters what you do, it is a valuable education experience on both parties.  The parents also got to know their children a lot more and they will be able to help them develop themselves, no matters which schools they attend.

I strongly agreed that we have very good time with our child, no matter which kind of approach you are taking.  I myself enjoy the time spending with her very much (though playing with kid will make you so tired...)

There are no secrets.  But the importance is how the parents consider the kind of schools which are suitable for your son.

So, there are changes that both the parents and the son have to go through.  To manage your expectation with reality.  There are really plenty of choices but often time what we found is parents would narrow their choices prematurely.  Leave your options open and there will be a right school for him.

We didn't apply to many schools.  At the end, the result is two offers and one waiting list.

We didn't ask specifically if they will accept the personal profile, but I am sure there are such schools.

The whole P1 process has just started, the key stage of this process is yet to come, which is June next year.  There are plenty of opportunities there!

Ian, I am really happy to read your post in BK. How postitve you are.

I didn't apply any private schools for my daughter. I just want to find a school nearby my house. As i hope it is easy for my family to take care of her and no need to take a long journey to school. However, both schools are famous in my district. I failed to got the admission token in the first round.

I am not disappointed as I didn't have great expectation to get it in the first round.  But I am worry that if I should prepare something for my daughter or just waiting for the second lucky draw.

Concerning what you need to do during the wait for June's result, I believe what you need to study is the strategy on filling in the schools for central allocation.  Based on your post, I assume you are not particularly picky and would be fine with either choices.  So, what you need to do now is to learn the chance of putting which one as first choice.  Ideally it would be your choice in discretionary places stage already.

As you know, I cannot put both school in my first and second choice since both of them are very popular in my district. So my strategy is that find a less popular school but could accept as my second choice.

I am worrying about that I will fail in my first and second choice during the central allocation. I think it will be too late if I apply the private school after the allocation result in June.

Actually your strategy is correct but it would probably help if you can share with me (PM me please if you prefer the privacy) which are the two schools you are targeting.  Hopefully I can tell you which one is "less popular" so it may increase your chance of securing one.  Hopefully can also give you some suggestions on which will be the more suitable second choice to fill.

On the other hand, target those private primary schools which allow lucky draw after June's central allocation result announced.  It is often an phenomenon that is common among these schools that there will be seats available by then.  By probability, someone have to be lucky as always, so there will be seats released as a result of this.  So, be prepared.
