Dear Quentin

I want to take my daughter (11 yrs old)
to Van for summer school in coming summer.
Can I directly enrol the short course with
the schools in Van?
I don't want to enrol those organised by HK
agency because the students will talk in Chinese
with other friends.

Can I have your kind advice?

Dear STBL & happeecc,

I have similar case as you. I also plan to bring 2 daughters back to Van for schooling in a few years. They hold Canadian passports but live in HK since born. As happeecc said, they should not be enrolled in ESL and not treated as new immigrants.

In our cases, will my daughters enjoy the local school fees & benefits as local residents? This is a critical element as we will see how much cost of living we will need in future. Many thanks.

yes, your child can enjoy the benefit of local student, but if their english is good enough to communicate?

It is funny question! What benefit you can enjoy if you are HK resident while you study in HK? Free education is the only benefit as overseas student has to pay school fee! You still need to pay other expense such as field trip, hot lunch...

Thanks. Excuse me as I have no idea on what kids' benefits while the time we were in Van. My chilldren born in HK after our return.
