At my boy's time (around 10 years ago), YC used self-arranged and edited textbooks. The main objective for primary 1 to 3 Chinese is to build up large amount of vocabulary. YC achieved this objective quite successfully, at least in my boy's case. His Chinese level was comparable to local school standard, without any outside tutoring, while his Chinese lessons' time at school is less than local school. However, not every kid learnt good Chinese successfully in YC.
