I'm wondering if it is good to send my daughter to a good uk school. I heard CLC, St Swithun's, Headington, Benenden, Brighton are pretty good. But not sure how you compare against top local schools such as SPCC, DGS and she is doing quite well academically. Pls advise your views and how would you rank the uk schools.

When comparing elite local schools with top notch UK schools, I have the following views.

l Academically most of them obtain at least 9 A* in IGCSE O level exam and are admitted by U like Imperial, KCL and Oxbridge.

l Culturally they are immersed in western culture and core values.

l Financially you have to spend more than 36,000 pounds a year for most top independent schools.

l Happily they only need to spend no more than 2 hours in daily studies even for my friend’s girl with 5 A* in GCE A level.

l Musically they would more enjoy music and playing instruments due to daily core music activities in school.

l Physically they are more physical strong due to compulsory 1-2 hours cricket, rugby activities during Mon to Sat.

l Psychologically they are more outspoken and outgoing due to small class size of about 15 students, field studies and various optional trips like yearly Geography camel trip to Morocco, Spanish trip to Barcelona etc.

l Verbally they speak fluent English after 1 year’s study in UK.

Hi CPU 1995,

Good comparison !
How would you compare those students studying in ESF with UK top notch schools ?
I am stuggeling whether to let my child go aboard. They have roughly the same curriculum and school life. I just wonder what will be different in their future life after spending several years outside . Does it worth to do so ?

Hope someone could enlighten me.

my son is also international school student (not ESF but also adopting UK curriculum). I had same thought as you before, that his school life would be similar to those in UK. But once you have visited the schools of UK (or just go to their websites and watch the videos about their school life), you will find that the UK school life is totally different and much more dynamic than the ones in HK (even international schools), the space for the kids  is much much more,  physically and mentally.

I finally decided to send my son abroad in Year 10 (could not convince my hubby last year for Year 9), not only becos of the above reason (we visited the schools in June), but also, I think it's more than academic. It's the boarding life being very different from their life in Hk, and the learning of independent in living and thinking

Thanks.  it seems an over-whelmingly 'yes' to UK boarding.  how would you rank CLC, St.Swithun's, Brighton, Benendon, Badminton, Headington?  Wycom was quite high on the list as well, but it seems it's extremely difficult to get it unless you plan ahead a few years.  so, how would you rank those i mentioned?  and if there is any good one that i've missed.  thx much
