It is not only applied for Primary Schools. It is also true for the Kindergarten as well.

I live in TY and ESF is within walkable distance.  I also know that students accepted by ESFTY have very diversified English standards.  Do you have any suggestion of good international kindergartens that are not far from TY?

i have heard some good comments (from Japanese mommies) about the Learning Habitat Kindergarten. But the one that my friends' kids are going is the branch in Hung Hom. So i'm not sure if the one in TY is of the same standard, but you can check it out!

This is not true.
My girl graduated from ESFTY last summer (05/06 round) and ALL of her classmates I know (~10) were admitted by ESF primary. The success rate of 2004/05 admission was ~87/89 applicants, from a talk given by the Principal (ESFTY) last year.

Dear wcllks,

By looking at another comments, got to know 87/89 able to join ESF. I think ESFTY is definitely a good choice for you. The important thing is that you have to create an Eng environment to your kid as well.

The figure of 87 was included the student went to Phoenix together. Jeni, the Principal, did not release the exact breakdown of how many student went to ESF's Primary and how many student went to Phoenix.

I believe Pheonix is a good school too. Don't always treat them as second. I know quite alot of people want to go there. Brand new campus and more emphasis on Chinese.

Agreed. But their tuition fees is much higher than other ESF's Primary. Also, they charge HK$800 for non-refundable application fees. It looks they have a very tight financial situation.

Seems that you don't know that Phoenix is a private ESF school, while other ESF primary schools receive subsidies from govt, so fee is lower than Phoenix.

If you compare the fees of other international schools with Phoenix, you will see that her fee is reasonable.

My son's K1 class teacher is a very dedicated teacher. She love children very much as I felt. But most of the teachers in K2 this year, they just ensure children to go to primary school. The focus of this year seems for 'primary school' only. So they always to push parents to do so many things. For example, my son's handwriting in not very good, the teacher told me my son should join a drawing class. As my friend's daughter, she cannot speak very good English, her teacher told my friend she must go to join a English playgroup something like that. Anyway, I am considering to apply the other school for my son next year.

Does ESF TY have am and pm sessions for all grades (K1-K3)? I heard some mummies said that ESF TY only have pm session. Is that true?

Hi ccy4901,

You mentioned about your son's handwriting. But when do kids there start to learn to do handwriting? I thought kids there wouldn't learn much about writing or use of pens. Or do you mean drawing or painting with crayons? Please share. Thanks.

Dear Minggrace,
The teacher teach them how to write their name and how to hold a pencil but anytime.
I am very surprise about that because the curriculum is not focusing on handwriting.

In ESF, A.M session is always saved for English kids, for local/Chinese as 1st language kids will get in P.M. session even you holds a British passport.

When the kids reached 5 years old, they will move to ESF junior school or other international school if they pass through the interview.

My son is studying in ESFTY in A.M. session. His classmates are 99% Chinese. So I think A.M. session is not only for Westeners.
