For SHCK parents who live outside of HK island, I guess you may have read my thread last year trying to organize nanny buses from across the harbour.

From time to time, I receive emails from current parents hoping to arrange school bus (official ones) from outside of HK island and I would love to help since I also live in N.T.  However, very few of us have used the latest opportunity to make this request on the school bus questionnaire as distributed by the PTA.  So, there are very little I can do to help since there are simply no numbers to support such request.

I am not sure if parents are happy with current nanny bus arrangement or just didn't recognize the last questionnaire serve the purpose of making such request.  However, as the PTA will have meeting with the bus company very soon so it is important to understand more of the current experience from parents who live in Kowloon and N.T.

Please kindly share here, whether we can have it arrange this year or not, it still serve as a good mean to share our experience, and see if there are any way to improve it.

For the current parents or upcoming NC parents who do wanna be counted so we can have a concrete case, please PM me and provide me (1) your child's name (2) class and (3) pickup area so I can put this together quickly.  If you know other parents who don't use bk, I will pass you my contacts thru PM  so we can facilitate the communication quickly.  I must have everything by end of next week (March 26, 2010).

If you are not comfortable sending me the children's details directly, I suggest you to send to the PTA contact email directly thru their website, which will be more official.

Please help to spread this message across.

Will update you with further progress. Just to be clear at the moment there are no OFFICIAL school bus services organized for students in Kowloon side by SHCK. There are nanny bus arranged by private companies only.

There are quite a few of SHCK nanny bus arranged by number of people like Uncle Kwong, Uncle Tam, Mrs. Cheung and James Wong. Some of them is for SHCK only so they don't mix students from others.

Let's see how we can do this year and it is too early to check the nanny bus company now. They won't confirm until close to school starts.

Dear all SHCK parents,

Would like to give you an update concerning the possibility of cross-harbour school bus services after meeting with management of Kwoon Chung before the Easter holiday.

The main concern where such school bus services cannot be arranged is due to the fact that (1) less number of parents living in Kowloon/ N.T. side and (2) the locations are highly scattered. (3) A certain minimum of students will be required on each route so that the bus route can be operate every year, if such minimum cannot be reached, then that route will need to be suspended.

In order to handle the above concerns, the following were suggested:

(1) Basically there can only be maximum of 3 bus routes from Kowloon side (a) Kln West (b) Kln Central and (c) Kln East.

(2) The Kowloon school bus services will not be a door to door services, i.e., based on the areas with higher students population, the company will set certain pickup/drop-off points.

(3) This service can be operated every year with the condition where minimum number of students will be required on each route, so, am and pm routes are independent.

(4) With the concern of traffic jam in the early morning, some special arrangements may be required for pickup time for am routes (earlier time to avoid to jam on major harbour tunnels).

Your inputs are welcomed here. Meanwhile, I am arranging with the kindergarten to distribute a new questionnaire to all parents so we can collect more precise information for such arrangement.

Please note that this is NOT CONFIRMED yet. The final decision on whether to operate the Kowloon bus route is still under discussion and the inputs from parents are very important on affecting such decision.

Finally, just wanna express my appreciation to a few parents like kiteli and sarahmama on helping me on collecting some of the existing students' information.

No, the specific number wasn't being mentioned. I guess the minimum is based on the minimum costs they calculated to run each route.

Here is another update concerning possibility of Kowloon Bus routes.

The questionnaire for the current NC and LK students have been prepared and will be distributed tomorrow. I assume it will also be available thru iParents. Please give us your views and ideas. Even if you may not consider to try it in the coming year, it will be a good idea to let us know your current location so that we can have better understanding of students' geographic location so it will be useful for future planning.

For upcoming NC parents, some of you have already provided me with your email address and I will need to follow-up with you individually. Of course I can understand some of you may not have made up your mind on whether to attend this kindergarten yet, so please also tell me how certain your cases are. So far I have received only 4 parents all from coming NC pm classes and if you haven't done so, please contact me thru PM with your contact information by April 29th (Thursday).

However, it seems there are very few replied questionnaires so I urge any parents to raise any comments through this questionnaire. The deadline has passed (yesterday) but Monday is still not too late.

In the past two weeks, I have worked very hard and closely with the kindergarten and the school bus company after organized the statistics based on the questionnaires collected.

Details related to the statistics will probably be included in our next PTA's minutes so please refer to it for details.

In sum, the replies comeback which needed such services are not very high and it was a bit disappointed to me, frankly.  Particularly, in some of the areas in the middle part of Kowloon, the numbers are very low so it never come close to establish significant needs.

Fortunately, the expectation of the school bus company are properly managed and with a minimum number of replies reached from Kowloon West and Kowloon East area, we are in the process of coming very close to have Kowloon school bus offered by Kwoon Chung on a ONE-YEAR TRIAL BASIS in coming academic year.  I must express my deepest apology to parents living in areas which eventually cannot be covered with the routes proposed since a minimum requirement to try to organize such services must assure (1) minimal stops per route  and (2) regional coverage to avoid long travel time.  So, again, I am very sorry to those parents who have given your inputs but we don't have enough students in the nearby region to propose the third route which use the "central"(old) harbour tunnel.

This implies that the new trial school bus services (if available) in the coming school year will be using either Western or Eastern harbour tunnels.  This are proposed by many parents and agreed by the school bus company.

More official details will be send ONLY to those parents who indicated interests to use such services on the questionnaire from Kwoon Chung next week.  Please PM me or email to PTA if you didn't indicate such interest but are changing your mind so we can include you, by Monday the latest.

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY:
This is just an update of the progress so there are still details to be finalized.  Obviously it is a very difficult and complicated matters so this probably explains why we never have Kowloon school bus in the past.  The trial school bus services serving Kowloon side is not official yet until Kwoon Chung finally release the full details.  Most importantly, this arrangement is being offered by Kwoon Chung now so please don't make inquiry to the kindergarten on this particular matter.  All inquiries related to this trial offer should be made directly to Kwoon Chung (or me at this point).

Just a personal note, I sincerely hope my efforts spent on this task can eventually benefit many of the parents who currently are having trouble or difficulty to find the best and safe way to take your children to kindergarten right now.  I truly believe all SHCK parents are very considerate and for those that we are unable to offer the services to your current location, please understand I have really tried my best and spent many many nights scratching my head try to make it more perfect so everyone can be benefited.  On the other hand, for those parents who are fortunate to have your area covered, please do consider using this service since it took huge amount of time and energy to have us come down to so close of having such arrangement provided to us and hope you can appreciate it and consider using it.  If the support is not enough, the trial service will not become a more regular service and it will be almost impossible in the future to ever think about this again.

Thank you all for your support and hope you can enjoy it (if it eventually come true!)

For summer courses, I have applied to three plus 2 regular ones so Shannon will be occupied!  Luckily, I manage to have no courses on Sat and Sun!

I remember 嵐嵐 is also small B (September, right?) so that's why I asked.  Then little one is even tougher!  Do apply some more for backups learning from the situation this year.  The only good thing is, next year there are 60 more places available at SHCK (total 8 classes).  Do you know about that?

You are right, we also booked classes during weekdays so Shannon would still need to attend classes daily so it's like no holidays!  haha

Actually it is 3-3-4 (because total allowed use of classrooms are 10), so we are lucky for our young ones. Actually I consider this when I decide to attend SHCK so the young one would have better chance.

Yes do remember when 嵐嵐 was born because we all worked hard together last year mar! I was afraid how come everyone in bk are younger than Shannon, who was born in August. If 嵐嵐 and Shannon are classmate next year in LK, then they will have birthday party together! ;)

Like to apologize to those parents expecting to receive the letters from Kwoon Chung concerning the school bus.

I followed up today with both parties and found out although we have confirmed the routes to be proposed, however, Kwoon Chung still need time to prepare the application forms for coming school year so they need to be sent out together. So, probably another 1-2 weeks before it can come out.

You are welcome. And it is because parents like you who we walk through the path last year so I become determine to make this happen.

There are still many follow-ups with Kwoon Chung I believe since I have heard concerns about early pickup time and one or two routes may not have enough students yet to form the route. Let's pray and hope there are more coming NC students to join.

It was a requirement added at the very last minute as we finalized (that part is out of my control already). Kwoon Chung will require 14 students per bus to operate that particular line. So, for example, if Kln East AM route cannot have 14 students, then this bus cannot operate. The four routes now (am & pm combined) are independent.

For your case, I think there are enough students since Kwoon Chung is thinking to add 1-2 more students per adding 1-2 more stops if not enough students.

my daughter will be the coming NC pm student , unfortunately, we live in Sham Tseng, no school bus will be covered!
I really hope that no 13 can pick my daughter up in Sham Tseng, we dont mind early pick up time , and I do join this route if it can fit us!

You have went to register today already?

I would suggest you to contact the school bus company to reflect your wish. They should have the phone no. listed on the letter given to the parents. The role of the PTA is to help collect the data initially so Kwoon Chung can based on the pattern of locations to decide routes that can cover most of the students in Kowloon. However, we expect and realize that it is not possible to cover all the locations. For your information, even within HK island, there are still places which Kwoon Chung still haven't covered yet.

I strongly recommend you to leave some information with Kwoon Chung first, it is because we do not have the location data of the new coming NC students. If there are more students living in Sham Tseng, may be Kwoon Chung would consider it too. For example, we didn't expect the school bus to reach Tsing Yi at the beginning since it is in NT area but because Tsing Yi has most of the Kowloon SHCK students there so it has been included.

I just phoned the school bus provider, the staff suggested me fill in the school bus form and return it back first, but the chance for adding sham tseng pick up point is not high as it is too far away and seems to be no one ask for it before!
I do hope that miracle can be happened on my family!

Yes, I went to register this morning as I am not free in this afternoon!
Staff are polite and helpful! But still worry about the "stairs" of the school, and just wonder will it be too dangerous for little guys to walk the long stairs by themselve!
I want to ask you one more question, by what mean your daughter go to school? Nanny bus offered by Mr Tam ? or Bring her to any school bus stop by yourself?

Hi SCV,

You are welcome and I hope you can have good news. We only have 1 student in Sham Tseng and she is currently using nanny bus service. Still not sure if she would use the new school bus service and pickup at Tsing Yi.

We didn't use nanny bus and currently my wife brings my daughter to the Central post office to take the school bus there.

Concerning the staircases, it is not a problem as it is a very good exercises for children! All the SHCK students are very good with the staircases.

I didn't let my daughter take any English courses yet since I feel the level provided by SHCK is sufficient. Actually, my daughter starts from zero English to now, she can make simple English conversations with the Filipino helpers in the park in our estate already (ours is Cantonese speaking).

However, lately my daughter has requested me to find her some English courses in the summer holiday so we will try one first and let you know her comments. The centre is in Tsuen Wan.

HIi IAN and SCV,

I went to register this afternoon..so surprise to know that school bus may be availble at Tsing Yi....however I am living in Ting Kau....so if I take the schoo bus, I would need to drive my daugther to Tsing Yi everyday!

So I am still thinking whether to take the nanny bus or the school bus.....

may be I would reply to the school bus company with my concern first....

I do encourage you to contact the school bus company so they know the situation. We don't have so many students from so far away in previous years so we couldn't ask the school bus company to consider those areas. Your input could help them to consider adding extra stops if possible.

I called KCB to request for adding a new stop at Ho Man Tin, however they can't cofirm recently.  Ms. Chow asked me to wait till July see if there's many students in the same district.

Hope KCB can add the route, otherwise need to call the nanny bus.

Oh you are one of the parents I talked to earlier this week? Sometimes I lose the connection between real world and BK and obviously made too many calls to confuse me to consider I may come across someone I know from here. You should have reminded me you are 車莉!

Anyway, thank you very much for your efforts to make the call to Kwoon Chung and I am sorry that they have sounded bad. Honestly, the whole process had been a very difficult experience to me, I assume things should be finalized later this month when all the reply slips are returned to Kwoon Chung. Based on the information I am able to collect from my sources of data, I don't expect all 4 routes (am + pm) can reach the minimum. I assume it is more likely only one to two routes can come close to the 14 students requirement as set by them.

Sorry again for asking you to contact them and give you a bad experience......

Just confirmed with Kwoon Chung that for the coming year, the trial operation for Kowloon will only be tested for the two pm routes.  The show-up rate for both am routes is very low so both of them are far from reaching the minimum.

I believe the am parents who replied should have received the SMS from Kwoon Chung already.  Please accept my apology for not be able to make it all happen together.  But with such low number of parents replied, it is just not possible to convince the school bus company to even give it a try.

For the pm classes' parents, I have reminded Kwoon Chung to have someone contact you by end of June for confirmation purpose.  For those who only submitted the forms without the deposit cheques, please kindly do so as soon as possible.

Finally, just to remind current and future parents that this Kowloon school bus service is only on trial basis.  In order to continue, it requires the support from all parents.  Thank you very much!

Actually I don't have the latest update on the final route yet, since it is determine by the school bus company. So, is it from Sham Tseng-> Ting Kau-> 荃灣 -> 青衣 -> Olympic -> SHCK? May be I should check with them later too.

I believe you must have prayed really hard since I think it is very lucky to be able to have school bus from Sham Tseng to a kindergarten in HK island! Even Good Hope on the Kowloon side I heard don't have enough students from there to use the official school bus.

Just want to take this opportunity to specifically thanks kiteli, sarahmama and bobo_wong2006 who have went the distance to help on this matter. Unfortunately, we cannot reach the requirement by the school bus company to trail run both am routes this year but I am still hoping it can become realistic in coming year. At the moment, I am still helping to organize private nanny bus as an alternative so hopefully they can still be achieved.

Finally, just to remind the replied PM parents to please follow the instructions from Kwoon Chung if you haven't submitted the checks for deposit by June 30.

Yes, my daughter is going to be in LKApm the coming year so they will be classmate. I assumed there will be opening in my daughter's class since a few boys may be transferring to another kindergarten for K2 so usually there are a tiny few openings for students elsewhere to join in. Mind to share where your daughter is currently studying?

They can't confirm you right-a-way at Kwoon Chung since we have no ones stated interest from the Kowloon station area for pm classes, so it is not on the route planned. They will take in more requests from parents and confirm in late August when they issued the route.

I was also a bit surprised with the number of stops it eventually took to reach the kindergarten as I received the route yesterday (I have no privileges to receive it sooner).

I had the same worry for you as I read it but I believe it is something you should have considered when you make the application since your location is very far from the kindergarten by any public transportation. So, don't get yourself worry too much with the extra 15 mins as it is just a proposed schedule now and things can change along the year. So, you cannot be worried too much! At least you have a direct school bus taking your daughter to the kindergarten, it is already something to be thankful for. Not everyone can have that.

I think I made some mistakes, if I take nanny bus to school , the travelling time is around 55 mins, and if i take school bus, the travelling time will be 10-15 mins more ! But now , as the school bus provider add at least 4 pick up point, then the total travelling time will become at least 90- 100 mins ! That is not I expected and it is not the plan the school bus provider chatted with me in the phone before!
And Now, it is difficult for us to move to a nearer location to live in a short time! I am very worried and the nanny bus havent provide service this year, that meant we have no choice now!

Oh, you used 1:15pm to calculate the estimate arrival time? Not the case since Kwoon Chung is required to arrive early so last year, some school buses arrive as early as 12:30pm (all school buses must drop off by 12:45pm the latest as required last year)! Based on the schedule it written, I believe the arrival time should be around 12:45-12:50pm (I believe this year the target complete time has been delayed to 1pm).

fyi, you can't trust nanny bus schedule since their alteration can be even on a wider range.

Don't be too nervous. From my experience last year, it takes a while for the child to adopt to the travel but they will be able to manage it eventually.

You daughter will have another girl to accompany her (should be a UK girl (i.e. K3) ) so she will be taking care of.

The Kowloon routes are only on trial basis this year so although there are 2 stops at Tsuen Wan this year for PM classes only, parents from outside of Hong Kong island need to make sure there are other alternatives to go to the kindergarten or moving closer. Cannot guarantee if the services will be available. It is based on demand and this year, there are not enough demands from AM classes so they are not available to them.

Quite hard to say as the first day normally is a bit out of order so the school bus left the kindergarten late and arrive late too. Today has the heavy rain which affect the schedule a lot.

As I chatted with the school bus mother in the phone, the route no. 13 has 24 students to use, that's why the time for transportation is much longer than those announced by KC in July.For Sham Tseng, the total transportation time is 95 mins.Honestly, I felt that we were so lucky at the beginning as the new school bus service covered the area we lived but now we are in a great suffer ,we are planning to move to a near location that can be shorten my kid's transportation time to school!

I support your decision even though we have school bus this year to the area that you live. I guess there are no perfect solutions no matter how hard I try. I was quite amazed with the student number you mentioned. I guess I will pay attention this Friday as my daughter need to drop-off at Kowloon Station so can see how many students there are.

I am sorry that it can't work out the best. At the end, Kwoon Chung is a commercial organization so they will welcome more students so they have higher profits. I really didn't expect so many students to join since we were very marginal to reach enough students by June.

I hope you and your daughter will enjoy more of the life in this kindergarten.

The pickup/ drop-off point near Kowloon Station is at the Sorrento. According to the schedule provided by Kwoon Chung, pickup time is 12:37pm and drop-off time is 17:10pm.
