上各學校嘅網頁就可以見到。學費加必須雜費（書簿，保險，等等）大約一萬美金左右


3) 這區有什麼大學可供選擇? 1年學費/生活費多少?
Bay Area 最出名的大學，私立的有 Stanford，州立的有 UC Berkeley，其他還有很多，但不太清楚哪間的演藝科比較好


4) 滿18歲可以做兼職嗎?
兒子是美國公民／居民嗎？如果是，可以的；如不，應該只能在校園內做兼職，每週最多 20 小時

如果你/妳要問指定郵區編號 (Zip Code), 我估計你/妳可能是:

1.  有親戚朋友在這地方居住,或

2.  你/妳可能是美國居民/公民, 或一家將會移民美國?  如答案是2者請告知, 因為學費, 申請程序, 等都跟外國學生有很大差異.

我先假設你/妳兒子是香港居民到美國留學的外國學生,由於你/妳給我的資料不多, 所以我可以給你/妳三個選擇:

1.  假設你兒子是一名資優生,在校內成績優秀, 而預期未來DSE成績標炳, 我建議你/妳兒子不要考慮投考CA 95129附近的Community College, 建議投考Deep Springs College, 網址:

這是一所男校,每年大概有200-250學生申請, 但每年只收大概15人, 全校學生學費、宿費、膳食都全免(包括外國學生), 學校位於加州一小鎮, 鄰近內華達州, 學校附近很荒無, 所以可以很專心讀書, 唯一條件要幫學校每星期做20小時工作, 不少學生拿到副學士以後都能進長春藤名校(Ivy League Universities), 或加州大學等名校,參考:

2.  假設你/妳兒子成績中等, 建議選De Anza College, 原因這一間學校畢業的跟其他加州社區學院比較多人考進加州大學,(加州最好的Community College 應是位於洛杉磯的Santa Monica College), 參考:

2014年有715人成功考入加大, 其中有125個考上UC Berkeley, 有164個考上UCLA, 有56個考上UC Irvine, 按一按De Anza College 統計捧便可以看到.

如果你/妳中文程度比英文強的請找Joseph Ng申請入學, 他是處理國際學生入學事宜,也許他說中文, 這樣可以省下在香港找Agent費用:

至於學費加雜費請自己計算一下,假如國際學生一學期修12學分, 每一學分是$152美元, 另外國際學生必須購買健康保險,每學期待$484美元. (假設一年三學期, 暑假也修學分, 一年學費加雜費便可以知道要付多少),參考:

雖然能入讀UC 學生比例較多, 但是全校有23,000人, 建議不要工作, 認真讀書考上加大才是上策,否則只能進California State University 或是San José State University

3.  假設你/妳兒子成績是中下游, 建議選屋企附近West Valley College, 在2014年這一間學校畢業的跟其他加州社區學院比較只有127考進加州大學, 其中有19個考上UC Berkeley, 有11個考上UCLA, 有8個考上UC Irvine, 按一按West Valley College 統計捧便可以看到.

你/妳兒子很大機會在畢業後考上California State University 其中一間分校,最近CA 95129 是San José State University:

其實讀兩年CC，再轉U在美國好普遍。
外國人讀大學，好多時係自己借 student load 讀書。 咁樣讀較慳錢！
入邊間大學，主要係睇你嘅 GPA 同埋 SAT 分。

感謝你這麼詳盡的資料, 你的估計非常準確 :-
1)  有親戚朋友在這地方居住, 可以照顧兒子, 希望可以節省住宿費;
2) 兒子是香港居民到美國留學的外國學生, 成績中等, 你建議選De Anza College, 這間CC好像有很多香港學生入讀, 因為看見有香港AGENT介紹這間CC, 這間CC學習氣氛如何? 如果有太多香港學生一起會影響個人讀書態度嗎? 因為我兒子是個很容易受他人影響的, 自信心不多的人, 但是他喜歡幫助別人, 有時自己受傷都不知道.
3) 請問可以用在CC讀完2年的成績申請入讀香港的大學第3年嗎?  因為在香港可以用STUDENT LOAN減輕經濟負擔!

在加州, 比較好的社區大學都有不少亞太裔, 以三藩市、灣區及San José 為例, De Anza College 有43.9%:

所以選學校有以下因素要考慮, 請自行決定要否送兒子出國:

1)  亞裔同學(如來自中國或香港) 太多, 他會否只跟這類學生交往而沒有跟美國學生太多溝通?  如果他自己本身英文流利可能沒有太大影響, 如果英文不好但只跟中國及香港同學交往, 當然講英語及體會不同文化機會自然減少.

2)   至於這幾間學生個人素質及修養我沒有研究, 無論甚麼種族都有良莠不齊, 在美國也有不少香港優秀的留學生, 你兒子在大專院校的際遇沒有人估到, 你/妳只能做的是提醒他一個人在外地要對自己行為負責.

3)   跟親朋好友會否因生活習慣不同導致磨擦?  萬一你/妳兒子有這問題你/妳有財政預算讓他搬出來嗎?  (我假設你/妳的預算有限)

4)  如他英文程度太差, 學校要求學生讀ESL (英語為第二語言), 這樣的話有可能超過兩年才能畢業, 另外, 會否因為這樣超出妳/你的預算?  

5)  至於會否銜接本港大學, 如你/妳決定兒子到美國讀書前, 請到本地心儀大學入學組問一下, 會否接納美國某社區大學transfer讀大三?  最低入學GPA要求多少?  要否看DSE/TOEFL等成績?  我沒有相關的經驗, 請自行問清楚.

Sorry bee, I think I have misunderstood what the AA means, she means that if my boy is going to US after F5(instead of F4), then this program will enable him to complete the two years high school course in only one year. After that, he can apply the 2 years CC and go to university for year 3&year4.

-Send my boy to the 1 year exchange program for G11
-Transfer to a private high school for G12
- Apply community college Y1&2
- Apply university Y3&4

Would you feel differently if he only studies in a private high school for two years?   I think that he will need a very long time to deal with transitioning to new environments in different schools as well as the culture and language difference in the United States.  He also needs to maintain a good GPA in high school to get into a good university in the future.

I would appreciate if you tell me more details about your son.  For example, what grade is he currently studying right now in Hong Kong?   What high school do you want him to get into?  What state he will go to, and what community college or university do you want him to go to?   Maybe I can give you more advice and information.

For an average Form 3 student in Hong Kong with green card, which route of study is better in general? Finish local school with DSE result then apply college in US or move to US  junior and senior year in public high school.  I wonder it might be too late with just two years of US high school GPA and weak AP result for college application.  Also, SAT/ACT is another barrier need to be considered. The student is targeting college/ CC in Washington. Please advice.

The student might have the following benefits if s/he finishes his or her high school in Washington state:

1.  Improved English language skills before s/he enters community college.

2.  A chance of having an in-state tuition fee when s/he goes to community college.

3.  Ability to apply for scholarship or fellowship.   Most scholarship committees accept only students who have finished their high school in the United States.  

I would suggest for him or her to study at the following high schools.   The first one is the best, and the second one is the second, and so on:
