When should a child memorize multplication table ?

My boy started memorizing it when he was year 1 (5y).

from my kid's experience, he was exposed to simple problems of 'doubles', 'half' and fractions during 2nd term of year 2. It would be more beneficial for the child if he can memorize the multiplication table in the summer vacation before yr. 3.

I think U are right. They will teach multiplication and division in unit 4 of year 3 based on what they write in the year 3 bulletin.
