Agreed. I learnt IPA before, it was quite difficult to handle.  I just got some basic understanding after 3 months and gave up.  

My teacher said IPA is for secondary school student or above , phonic is for children. Although phonic is not a complete set, but is good enough for children. You could see there are many phonic classes, but difficlut to find IPA classes for children in the market.

我都諗往比囡囡讀下phonic. 佢6yrs old, 記性係好,但我諗是聽覺型, 佢聽完一兩次就讀得到,但換了另一本書, 相同字就未必讀到.

最近比cambridge一些 exercise 她做, 要睇完圖,再回答 yes/ no question 佢可做得岩晒,但我叫她讀一次出來,佢又很多讀不出來. 我發現她的方法是睇完圖畫,再睇字再望返圖來估字(因為佢係99%佢拼到第一個字母),前後加埋估意思.  佢考試 tachnique 就有,但唔係真係識好多字,估估下甘 所以都要諗下計如果train 下佢.
