派位不理想, 可否去國際學校讀grade 1

我女兒是細b,９月中出生.讀緊K1.  現在想緊應該同佢報讀下年國際學校讀grade 1, 但又怕佢年紀細, ９月入學時還末促５歲, 怕她追不上.  亦有想過等佢完Ｋ2才申請, 一邊讀Ｋ3等派位,又可以考私立學校.  如果派得唔好就去國際學校讀grade 1. 不過遲了１年, 唔知收唔收? 有冇媽咪可从比意見呀？

如果你當國際學校係避難所,係二等三等學校,咁你最好唔好諗,你唔會滿意,唔會讀得開心,疊埋心水讀local school啦,國際學校嘅媽咪係認同國際學校嘅理念先送小朋友入讀,係擺國際學校做first choice,請你唔好嘥咗人哋個位,國際學校學位係嚴重不足.

所有學校報名先,收妳小朋友之後再諗,學校收妳小朋友而妳又affort 到未來慨學費支出就 OK

其他學校我唔知，不過 ESF (包括 RC & DC) 係 5 歲 ( 12 月 31 日前 5 歲生日) 入 year 1 ，如果讀完 k3，就要入 year 2。
我知道的，係佢地都會對入學年齡執得好緊，唔係話你願意遲一年讀，就比你入 year 1。
當然，例外總會有，但係都要睇個別情形，你可以即管試下。

I think you should make your mind up early.
International schools & local schools will look for different kind of kids.
If your daughter studies in a local kindergarten, I don't think her English will be good enough to get into a good international school.
On the other hand, if she studies in an international kindergarten, good local schools may not want to take her because they will worry about her standard of Chinese.
So if you don't make up your mind early, you run the risk of losing out on both ends!

it sounds you know more better than outsiders,
what bother you then ??

They accept or not is out of our hands,
but submit or not is up to you ?
Why not send the application and see ?

I totally agree with jjd!  IS is NOT a rubbish bin.  I really don't understand why some parents think they can get a place in IS if their kids fail in band 1 local school.  If their target is band 1 local school, it means that they prefer and accept the philosophy of those schools, which is absolutely contrary to the spirit of IS.  If you put your kid in IS, are u sure u can put up with their teaching approach?  IS is not something you can get in if you can afford.  Most IS students come from 'at least' middle class family.  Money won't be counted in the application process.  The difference of IS and local school is not the "languages" adopted, is the spirit!!!!

最重要是，若妳女兒完全適應IS的學習，而小一派位又得好學校，妳又怎選擇？所以，妳要清楚妳的意願：IS or local system!？

比少少資料家長參考。
在 07/08 及 08/09 這兩個學年，有不少 band 1 名校生，考插班 RC 的筆試/面試都考唔到，當中有 DGS，MCS，LS，GHS 等的學生。有幾個是我朋友的孩子，亦有是朋友的朋友的孩子，絕對不是人云亦云，我亦不怕開人家的校名。
RC 係新學校，即使是 08/09 都仍然未係 full capacity，部份級別在過去兩年都有在慢慢的加班，因此，其實已相對比其他國際學校多收插班生。
另外，同是ESF 旗下的 DC ，因為規模比 RC 細，學額早填滿，將來收插班生數目不會多。其他有口碑的國際學校 ( ESF，HKIS，CNDIS，GSIS 等 ) 收插班生的情形，亦不需要我再作個別評論，家長自行估計，我只會說，"也是比考 RC 更難" 就是了。
不知從何時開始，就有很多家長有 "讀唔上本地學校，大不了去讀國際學校囉" 這個觀念，我只能說，實在是一個遺憾，我也早已懶得解釋。

其實，如果真的是較喜愛本地主流學校，也不一定要入甚麼 band 1 名校。我自己識很多 "有幸" 入到名校的，根本無論父母和孩子都唔係真係咁開心；反而很多讀較 "普通" 的學校，孩子真的開朗得多。當然，人就係咁，唔考過，唔讀過，唔試過，可能真係唔會甘心，就睇你係唔係真係 "放得開" 啦。
家長其實可以去 "小學雜談" 那邊打聽下，有哪些學校是有口碑，慢慢考慮清楚。

DC means Discovery College, the second 'private school' run by ESF, located in Discovery Bay.

local school 同 IS 既教學方法好唔同.  有D小朋友在local school 讀不上但轉了去IS就讀得好好.  其實不是IS的深淺問題, 而是活動教學另小朋友感興趣.  我細佬是好例子, band 1 local school 考尾二, 中四去了Canada讀, 現在快大學畢業工程系.  但唔係人人適合IS, 否則只會弄口反絕.

I thought you were asking for views. If you know so much about IS, then why even bother asking? And in the end when someone provide you with information, you sounded so hostile?

I did not come here to argue which kind of education is better. Or to compete about 深淺. But the fact is, it is not as easy as many people think to get a place in IS. The easiest to enter any IS is Year 1, and as times goes by, it is getting harder and harder. You need to admit this fact.

Your brother's case is totally irrelevant. He went to Canada, not IS in Hong Kong. The fact that he is now in university does not mean that IS in Hong Kong would accept anyone. Spaces are limited in IS in Hong Kong and competition is keen. That's it. May be you do not like it, but this is a fact.

In any case, you sounded you really like local education a lot more and think IS (or studying in Canada) is really an easy way out. Plus, you also sounded very confident your child can get a place in IS at Year 2 anyway. Well, in that case, I think it would be wise if you stick to whatever you like more. Just forget about IS.
