Let me try to explain - correct me if i'm wrong :

When did the class start - class 開始咗幾耐
What time did the class start - class 甚麼時間開始

So it seems What time did the class start is correct in this case.

呢條題目小朋友答案係 ' What time", 因為answer 是 It started at 1:00. (係指明time)      
      
但正確答案出來是 " When ", (呢份卷係我上網 download 人地學校出的. 佢有答案是 "When").      
      
但小朋友好唔明白, 因為佢知道 'When' 用法唔會係指明 'time' 的.      
      
e.g. When is your birthday?   ans : It's on the 10th May, 1999.      
e.g.When will you go to church? ans : I will go to church tomorrow.      
      
所以我唔識點解釋比佢知. 因為我覺得' What time" 好似合理些.

"What time" is more precise, the exact time.  "When" can be more general, say in the morning.
So "what time" for the question because the answer is the exact time.

If we use "what time", then shoud we need to ask in this way: "At what time did the class start"

i will choose "what time" as the answer is a precise time, ie 1:00.
if you put "when", the question will be "When did the class start?", then the answer could be something like "it started in September", and not necessary a specific time.

好多謝大家的回覆!

我同事幫我問左個曾經教過佢的professor, 個professor 話 grammer 上是用 'When" 才對.
只不過而家好多人習慣用 chinese english. 所以用左 'What time' 來問, 如果用口語傾計
就無所謂, 但寫出來就要用番 "When".無論講和寫最好用番'When" 才一定唔會錯.

咁 What time 係點運用? 除左 'What time is it?" 什麼情況可用呢? 有無人知呢?

When--意思係幾時、何時，通常係因應某事件既發生時間而使用。

而What time--意思上幾多點，通常都係用於問人地依家幾點，咁問人依家幾點，又唔會咁問: When is it?通常都係用What time is it? 例如: When will the party take place? 而唔會用 What time will the party take place? 我地中國人驟耳聽起上黎冇問題，但於外國人黎講，咁用法就非常奇怪。

所以What time都只用於詢問時間，亦可寫做: What's the time?
