Applicants must demonstrate through interview and assessment that they are capable of engaging with an English medium curriculum.  Applicants learning and social skills, together with their ability to cooperate with adults and other children, will be taken into consideration.

At interview, students’ potential for language learning will be explored as well as their ability to engage and succeed within the curriculum being offered at the school.

明確地指出不單考英文! 越來越難考

我都覺得這樣是對的,除了必要的語言技能外,有很多因素影響一個學生的未來,如良好的社交技巧,品行,性格,學習習慣都是同樣必須的。我個人觀點是對于一個小孩子來講,語言較之良好綜合素質仿佛更易掌握同進步。

I can see only the criterion for admission become vague. The decision will only go to the teacher's hand but making it lesser chance for possible disputes.

Don't believe in whatever noble reasons being given. Apparently, ESF management had been unhappy that many english speaking familites (caucasians if I may add) cannot get in, while local Cat 1 (true or fake) gets equal chance. They must change the rules to allow them discretion. So, contrary to what some media interpreted as good news to locals, this change will surely adversely impact locals, especially those who train their kids to speak only english.

I didn't realize ESF had an overt preference for foreign passport holders.  (According to the preface above, it says "EBD requires them to have at least 70% of the total ESF student body to be "non-local", defined as holding an overseas passport.

The old one was clearly discriminating Cantonese and those can go to LS. Apparently the new one focus in the kids English level. Thus those native mandarin, Hindu speaking kids do not have priority as before though it is not clearly mentioned.

In addition to the child's English ability, I believe  the new policy will also target the parents' English ability and the level of English support offered at home.
