What's the full name of KCIS and where is it? Are the kids' behaviour good? Is there any secondary school? And what's its school fees? Thanks for your info.

It's seem very good. However, do you know is kindergarten also have mandarin class? Also, did kindergarten teach children to read and write Chinese?

My son is studying in KCIS (Primary section), he speaking English daily with his classmates and teachers. Mostly, he speak to me in Cantonese at home, and he also speak to his friends in Mandarin.

KCIS has adopted a modified version of the British National Curriculum from Primary 1 through to Primary 6, with English, Mathematics and Science as the Core subjects. Other subjects are taught through cross-curricular, topic-based activities, that include Geography, History, Information Technology and Music. The curriculum has been adapted and re-written to include a good deal of learning about both Hong Kong and Asian History and Geography. Information Technology and Physical Education are also important elements of the whole curriculum. Mandarin is the fourth core curriculum subject which is offered, and reading, writing, speaking and listening skills are all taught by fully qualified Mandarin speaking teachers. Lessons are between 40 - 50 minutes daily. In addition, Primary 1 – 6 have a weekly Music lesson, and Primary 2 - 6 have an additional Chinese Culture lesson, both taught by the Mandarin teachers.

Hi Heib & Hoeve,

I heard that the students will study for IGCSEs and A Levels or the IB Diploma. Actually, i am not sure about Kindergaten and Secondary section. Because my son is studying at Primary section now.

Yes, kindergarten also have mandarin class and they also teach children to read and write Chinese. Homework is not heavy - once a week.

"真正學到中文", 每個人都有不同的定義.

我希望我的小朋友到10-11歲時, 識聽講香港話,普通話;識讀報紙,中文小說;識寫簡單信件,備忘錄.

可是香港好似無一家國際學校(包括所謂雙語學校)能做到這點. 可能我所知不多.

希望有家長能告訴我地成功的例子.

In the Secondary School, classes are available for beginners as well as other levels of Chinese competency. "

好明顯, 漢基對英文要求高過中文.

通常, 小朋友在同樣的語言環境下, 英文會比中文成熟早得多. 結果好少小朋友能在心智與語言能力同步發展, 能夠達到喜讀中文小說的程度. 在國際學校, 9歲時讀"Harry Potter"大有人在. 但要能讀"射雕英雄傳", 中文為母語的學生都要在10-11歲之後.

想想看, 當一位小朋友在9歲時就能讀"Harry Potter", 他點可能同時鍾意讀中文"三只小豬"? 長年下來, 最後的結果是, 國際學校的學生中文閱讀就較差, 寫就更不用講.  當然, 講中文是不成問題的.

所以, 要雙語成功, 真係好難.

This is true. Then what is your experience with your eldest son? You mentioned that he studied in Creative to learn Chinese first, then switch to international school to learn further in English. Is he very good in both languages now?

If this works, maybe this is the way.
