Does anyone knows whether the Y7 and Y8 is full ? WHen I called the school, usually they do not give you a specific answer.

Yes, I will be RC parent. But I'm afraid that RC will teach simplify Chinese instead of tradition Chinese. Is it true?

Regarding the document discussed in the UN, simplified Chinese will be official written Chinese in next 3 years. In fact, over 13 b of population are using simplified Chinese but less than 1 b of population are using traditional Chinese. Of course, HK people & Taiwanese are still using traditional Chinese but we need to note this development in the UN. It may be a trend.

What simplied Chinese?  There is only 邪體 and 正體 Chinese.

Has anyone bothered to take a look of the UN's announcements?.  The whole thing is nothing but a cost saving measure.  The UN simply does not want to release two sets of the same documents.  Can anyone imagine the UN releasing two sets of English documents - one in British English and one in American English?  

What a pity that we Chinese people have to count on the UN to tell us what is good and what is bad Chinese!

I am stating my personal view and have no intention whatsoever to question the intention of tommyzoe.  I might be a bit over the top but I do hate the so called simplified Chinese (I do not however hate any schools simply because they are teaching simplied Chinese - it is a completely different issue).

I cannot understand the fuss about the UN dropping traditional Chinese.  Think about it, it is entirely logical that the UN is not using traditional Chinese - there is not any member state that is using traditional Chinese (HK is not a soverign state and ROC/Taiwan was disowned in 1971).  It is as silly for the UN to use traditional Chinese as to publish something in Marsian for some non-existent member states from Mars.

On reflection, I agree that I should not have commented on tradtional v. simplified Chinese under this RC thread.  To avoid misunderstanding, I shall make it clear that I am not belittling RC or any other schools for switching to simplified Chinese.  In fact, I quite like RC.

I just received this official email from my girl's ESF primary (28Jun2006). Here is an abstract regarding RC. Hope this is useful.

"rivate Independent Schools Renaissance College at Ma On Shan will open in August. It has accepted 810 applications but can grow to 2100. The take up of places exceeds the forecasts in the original plans for the school. The College will be an‘all through’ 5-18 Private Independent School with a full International Baccalaureate curriculum and a significant Putonghua (Mandarin) component.
It represents a significant capital investment for ESF. It is not subvented so its fees are higher than for ESF schools. The College is still accepting applications in Years up to Y10. For more details on this school you can visit the website at www.renaissance.edu.hk/."

The fact is that including the existing PIS students (less than 400), a total of ~800 students will be the cohort at start of RC.  There should be lots of placements in upper primary & Sec. school in RC I believe.

So sorry that I attended the closing celebration of PIS today but I didn't have a chance to clarify this issue with the school admin.  I talked to a parent & she also said she didn't hear about this news so far.  If this is true, I guess parents should have been informed.  

Does it really a matter of your concern?

I just found out more info. for your reference.  Pls visit the RC temporary website to see the FAQ in pdf format concerning the Chin. cirriculum in RC.

Q9 stated that Traditional Chin. is taught in the school and simplified Chin. will be introduced to
middle years when students have a sound foundation of the Traditional one.
