She applied for P.2 level, cos she was 6 years old already then.  She had no problem going back to international section.

Re: KCIS - Kiangsu & Chekiang International Section

Is it difficult to secure a place in P.1?
How many rounds of interviews and in what language?
Could u comment about your kids' Chinese level? And do u think the facilities of KCIS are good enough (cos I heard from my friend that the school premise is quite old)?

Thanks in advance.

Re: KCIS - Kiangsu & Chekiang International Section

Totally agree!   We must encourage the kids to read, listen and write more often,  they can really learn fast in no time.

Re: KCIS - Kiangsu & Chekiang International Section

Is there any history of KCIS (International) students finishing primary school section to apply for traditional secondary school ?  How's the standard of Chinese as compared with other traditional primary schools ?

I just want to know whether there is any chances to switch back to traditional secondary school after the primary school if I could not afford to bring my child to international secondary school and further overseas studies.

Re: KCIS - Kiangsu & Chekiang International Section

我聽朋友說他朋友的兒子唸完蘇浙國際小學後升上了皇仁中學,因為那時候國際部只有小學。不過那小孩因爸爸工作的緣故,早年也曾在內地就學。

Re: KCIS - Kiangsu & Chekiang International Section

Hi moms
Is it not good to phone the school for a visit?  Staff of the international section admission office are very helpful and would be glad to assist you.  It is better to check out the facilities and operation from school visit.

Re: KCIS - Kiangsu & Chekiang International Section

Hi mymybb,

I hope you can read through some comments from  this thread and others' related subject.

Each school has pros and cons, if your idea is to allow your child to learn in a happy school life with active teaching approach, plus acquiring balanced English/Mandarin environment and needless to say, affordable tuition fees, then why not consider KCIS.

I suggest you browse into their website: www.kcis.edu.hk  to get more detailed information.

No more numerous daily drilling of worksheets and assignments because the teachers are patient enough to teach wisely during lessons time.
No more suffers from memorizing the spellings because they have learned phonics in lower years.
No more translations from Cantonese to Mandarin because they are taught in Mandarin daily therefore writing skills are much much better.

If your child has joined the school, you will be surprised to see the big changes in a very short time.  So far, I am very happy with their teaching approach.

Hope this helps.

Re: KCIS - Kiangsu & Chekiang International Section

Dear polarbear,

Thanks for your feedback.  Actually, I've visited KCIS before.  I want my son to change to this kind of active teaching school, it is because he and me are under a large pressure now.  Also, I would like to improve my son's english and mandarin skill.

But I think is it OK for my son to change to another environment which is very difference from P4.  I'm sure he cannot understand very well what the teachers and students say at the beginning.  I'm afraid he cannot catch up their standard, then create another pressure for him!

Re: KCIS - Kiangsu & Chekiang International Section

Hi polarbear22bear,

Actually my girl is studing at P1 (at KCIS) now, I'm a bit concern the Chinese level at KCIS.

For Chinese homework, my girl is learning 米, 牛, 男, 女 etc.  These are all the words to be learnt at K.1 or early K.2 at local school.  The Chinese teacher said when they finished P.2, their Chinese level should be same at P.1 at the local school.  According to the progress, is it hard for the student to chase for the syllabus.  Please comment.

Thank you.

Re: KCIS - Kiangsu & Chekiang International Section

Hi mymybb,

Don't worry about your son's adaptation.  Kids can fit in quite well.  If you worry his language ability, the school provides ESL lessons for a period of time depending on your child's progress.

As for Chinese, I think your son is capable to meet their level, because they are using the same level grade as in local schools'.  Eventually he will be trained to listen and speak in Mandarin daily.

Maybe other KCIS parents here can give you more views later.

Re: KCIS - Kiangsu & Chekiang International Section

Hi People3,

You are right, at P1 KCIS, they are giving K3 Chinese level, because your child is only (5?).  They follow local schools' syllabus, I guess.

I've heard parents from main stream that their Chinese level is stronger, perhaps you may consider if you have this worry.

Re: KCIS - Kiangsu & Chekiang International Section

Hi People3,
Under the UK Cirriculum, P1 equals to K3 of local system.   If you have enrolled your child in the int'l section, surely the exposure to chinese will be less than the traditional school's students.  I believe you kid could catch up with the sylb.  but may be slower than the local school kids only.  However, I also think your child's English is better than the local school kids.  Don't worry.  After reading so many comments, it is always a dilemma for us chinese parents to enrol the kids in int'l school since we want the kids to have good English but at the same time, not to abandon chinese, that's why some kids are studying in 2 schools or going private tuitions.

Re: KCIS - Kiangsu & Chekiang International Section

Hi Polarbear22bear

Just for interest sake, have you met any KCIS secondary school student at the upper campus before?  I found that many people are commenting on the poor discipline of the KCS secondary students.

Re: KCIS - Kiangsu & Chekiang International Section

Hi RTSMOM,

The last time I saw the secondary students (KCCIS), they were just normal high school students, and they were speaking fluent English to one another, their behaviour was normal.  And when they approached to the office, they used English to communicate to the staffs.(because that's their rule).  As for KCS students, I haven't met them yet as they were having classes at that time.  They have different style of uniforms (KCCIS & KCS) primary and secondary.

Re: KCIS - Kiangsu & Chekiang International Section

I visited the KCIS campus yesterday and met with the staff there.  I was told that once the kids get to P.6, they would be able to read chinese newspapers.  To me that's really very good.  I think one ought to remember that KCIS is an international school so probably not fair to compare their Chinese level to the local stream.  If my daughter can have good command of only one language, I would want it to be English.
