Local school F4 轉 IB, 困難嗎？

LPC的宿舍生活是怎樣呢？
據我所知，有好多活動都是由他們的學生統籌，再公開給其他中學生參加；我仔曾參與。
這幾年收ESF的學生嗎？

你當然要嘗試考其他國際學校. 穩陣啲!

你女兒一心讀IB, 你可以考多幾間其他的國際學校.  

Shatin College 絕對要一試啦.
(不過你系咪住果一區 Esf catchment area?)

宿舍真係細，所以有人會唔適應。
我指的活動，是校內學生活動。多嘢玩，易分心。有 leadership 有成績，但未必個個專心。
是朋友孩子 comment 。他也無 regret 入 LPC。
LPC 一直有收 IS 生，也有收 local 生，唔知數據比例。
I still prefer overseas UWC. Know at least 2 kids who went to overseas UWC.  Very different experience.

Both have challenging admission process.
I agree they should apply more, not only "popular" schools.

CDNIS, VSA, ISF, RC, CIS 初中行IB MYP課程，MYP 後上DP.

YC 同樣可以嘗試.

除了 IB and DSE, 香港仲有其他選擇, 你女兒有否考慮過?

因為很多學生,發覺應付不到本地中學課程

轉校, 你預10爭1  去到伸請YEAR 12

只有精英才能轉到 去國際學校

精英, 不一定轉到

轉到的, 一定是精英

精英,本身就可以選DSE 或國際學校

一般的本地中學學生最後得返3,4線國際學校或去外國讀

If your daughter can get into LPC, I wouldn't hesitate at all. They take the creme de la creme. Their university placement is phenomenal and around 50% of offers from the top US universities to students applying from HK go to LPC kids. No other school in HK compares. You also get great exposure by meeting students from all over the world.

Start from where your daughter wants to go to university, if she wants the US then ESF is not the best route, despite their stellar IB grades this year. US schools care more about how well rounded they are, grades are only a small part of the picture. ESF schools are great, just not great preparation for US universities. I assume UK is fine given that they are ESF.

以收生來說，大部分 IS school 都 ok 。
部分學校如 ESF 就可能因為費用平得多，又多分校，幼稚園又越開越多，吸引了很多以往根本冇機會入 IS 的中產。中產有專業人士，教授，做小生意，沒有豐厚家產留子女，因此十分想仔女入專業科。再，亦因爲ESK 幼稚園多了 TY WKS ，多了十分多本地家長選擇 ESF ，"本地" 之意，可能是連家長也未出過外國生活，他們首選想仔女留香港，和以往很多人夠分都唔申請香港各大學不同。
ESF 的生態，近十年變得最快。近幾年，尤其是仔女考到 ESF kindie 或 ESF Year 1 的家長咀串串，上嚟 EK 串其他學校。很多人甚至以為，EK 多人贊 = 好，但其實最績極吹噓的是 kindie 和 year 1 家長而已，吹噓也只停留在 IB results ，但其實呢，以 STC 為例，多狀元，但也有人只有 32 分。自己仔女是甚麼料才重要。單看IB 成績評學校，呢種現象表示 ESF 已失守。
LPC 呢，亦變了，他們收生取向的確和以往不同。IB 學校多，學生多了選擇，想去 UWC 的，亦多了轉戰外國 UWC 。

PS 其他家長勿 PM 問我意見，自己參透下一 EK 各 topic 。

住新界可以考 LPC, RC, STC, ICS，邊間收就入邊間。
ICS not IB school, but also very good. Hard to apply too. So good luck.

越高年級的家長越平實，因為自己知自己個仔/女的事。

想請教用MYP / Igcse時的成績去project IBDP的表現有幫助嗎？

TOK & CAS是一開始進入Y12就要預備嗎？

本地IB最後兩年基本上都系操卷先出到咁好的成績。

對！我都想提議她考 ICS, 所以問她除IB, 會否考慮其他IS.

My experience, MYP grades in Y10 & Y11 would be good indicator of what to expect in DP.

Start familiarising with DP program in Year 11. You will need to choose DP subject around mid-way through Y11 anyway. No need to freak out with TOK. Most of the stuff or sells they need to know would have been covered by MYP. TOK is not that hard for students from MYP.

If he wants, your son can start in Y11 to see what available CAS activities he would like to take over in DP. Many older students started many CAS activities in the past years, and new DP students can take over and make it there CAS major. For example at our school there are functions like TRASHION, INGENIUM, etc that have been here for many years. Usually the organisers would be DP students. If your son is interested in any of these activities, he should try to see how he can take over these activities from seniors. DP CAS will only be counted in Y12. Anything done before school starts in Y12 cannot be counted towards DP CAS.

All your words are useful and valuable to me. To sum up my case, pl see :

1. my daughter will be promoted to F4 in the coming school yr 17-18.
2. her wish to transfer to IS is nothing but get out of the DSE box.

3. she and I have not much knowledge in IS field but with courage only.

4. we understand its quite risky to swift to other system at her age. To make her and myself no regret, i decide to take the risk.

5. I am an ordinary citizen without asset but can only reserve max. 1.5 million for her to further education till the completion of undergraduate. Sure it would be great if she can admit to HKU or CU via - jupas so that we can spare the money for master education.

6. I have not experience of overseas education myself and hence my knowledge derived most from this forum , and so I have the following questions,

a. what is the difference between ICS and IB,

b. what do these short term stand for, CAS, TOK, MYP, CIS, SPCC,

c. she intends to apply for the school yr 18-19 as a yr 11 student. Is it wise or possible to 插班 in this school yr as yr 10 student?

d. if the foresaid plan fails, may switch to last resort, study in UK. Projected budget and boarding school recommended ?

-ICS is the initial of International Christian School, located in Shek Mun and it offers AP programmes;

-CAS is part of the criteria in IBDP: creativity, action and service
-TOK: Theory of Knowledge, also part of IBDP
-MYP: Middle year programme offered by IB for Year 7 to 11
-CIS: is the initial of Chinese International School located in Braemar Hill
-SPCC: is the initial of St Paul Co-edu College

c. she intends to apply for the school yr 18-19 as a yr 11 student. Is it wise or possible to 插班 in this school yr as yr 10 student?

-It all depends on the school's admission office.  Give a call to RC and you would learn more. For year 2018/19, RC states that the one who was born in 2003 could apply for Year 11.

CIS also provides scholarships for outstanding applicants. If your daughter is interested in applying this school, why don't you call the school and find out more info.
